Cubs 4, Rockies 3 (16): Catcher John
Baker earned the victory on the mound and scored the winning run on
Starlin Castro's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 16th inning as
Chicago prevailed in 6 hours, 27 minutes - the longest game in the
101-year history of Wrigley Field.

Baker (1-0), who walked one and induced Cristhian Adames to hit
into an inning-ending double play in the top of the 16th, started
the winning rally against rookie Tyler Matzek (2-5) - Thursday's
scheduled starter - by walking to lead off the bottom of the frame.
After Emilio Bonifacio sacrificed him to second, Arismendy Alcantara
was hit by a pitch and Anthony Rizzo delivered a bloop single to
left-center to set the stage for Castro, who hit a line drive to
medium right field, allowing Baker to score easily.
It was the longest game in Rockies and Cubs history, and the longest
in the majors this season. Bonifacio hit a two-run homer to tie the
game 3-3 in the fourth inning among his four hits and scored twice
while Rizzo added an RBI for the Cubs, who won for only the sixth
time in their last 21 games.
Colorado had runners on second and third with one out in the 10th,
but DJ LeMahieu missed a suicide squeeze as Justin Morneau was
tagged out, and struck out on the next pitch. Rockies center fielder
Charlie Blackmon robbed Welington Castillo of a game-winning double
with a diving catch in the bottom of the frame.
Morneau recorded two RBIs in his return to the lineup and Nolan
Arenado also drove in a run for the Rockies, who fell to 1-14 in
their last 15 road games and are a major league-worst 16-35 away
from home. Jorge De La Rosa ran his unbeaten streak to seven starts
after allowing three runs while striking out seven in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cubs RHP Edwin Jackson extended his winless streak to seven
starts after yielded three runs - all in the first inning, six hits and
three walks in four innings while throwing 105 pitches, including 35 in
the first. ... Morneau missed the last 10 games with a neck injury. ...
The Rockies also activated LHP Boone Logan (diverticulitis), who pitched
an inning of scoreless relief, while INF Adames entered in the 10th and
went 0-for-3 in his major-league debut after being called up from
Triple-A Colorado Springs. ... Cubs LHP Travis Wood, who has hit three
of his nine career home runs this season and is scheduled to start
Wednesday, pinch hit for Jackson in the fourth and flew out. ... The
previous longest game in Rockies history was a 2-1 victory in San Diego
on April 17, 2008, which took 6:16 and 22 innings to complete; the Cubs
