203,000 Help Wanted OnLine Ads in May
Bloomington/Peoria, Decatur/Springfield, Rockford, Champaign/Danville among state leaders

[June 09, 2014] CHICAGO – More than 203,000 help wanted ads for Illinois jobs were posted on the internet in May and 85 percent sought full time workers, the Illinois Department of Employment Security said today, citing an independent report. The data is not seasonally adjusted.

Help wanted leaders included the Bloomington/Peoria region (9,300), Decatur/Springfield region (7,000), Rockford Stateline (6,500) and Champaign/Danville (5,500). The Chicago metro area (150,800) always will lead the state because it has the greatest population of any Economic Development Region.

“Illinois employers are hiring. This is another measure that shows there are job opportunities in our state,” IDES Director Jay Rowell said. “Unemployment is falling. More people are working. Job growth continues. While no single piece of monthly data should be used to take the temperature of our economy, several key data sets reflect that Illinois’ economy is moving in the right direction.”

The Conference Board collects the Help Wanted Online data. The Conference Board is a global, independent business membership and research association. The data represents industries that post online job ads. Some industries, such as construction, do not typically post job openings online.

Statewide, the top five advertised positions in April were truck drivers (11,165), registered nurses, (6,462), retail salespersons (4,983), first line supervisors of retail salespersons (4,631), and customer service representatives (4,267). The median hourly wage for an Illinois truck driver is $20.57; registered nurse, $31.34; retail salespersons, $9.85; first-line supervisors of retail salesperson, $17.03; and customer services representatives ($16.08). Typically, the positions include some benefits, such as health insurance, paid sick days and vacation.
