June Library notes [June 26, 2014]  Summer Reading Program  The Summer Reading Program is a popular annual event at the library, and this year’s theme is “Paws to READ!”  Sign-up week is June 2 through 7 with animal games to play, but you may also sign up after this week.  The fun continues until the end of the program on July 26. In addition to children setting their reading goal for the summer, we will offer Story Times for children 6 months through 7 years old, Art/Craft classes for 8 to 12 year olds, and Thursday Events for the whole family.  All offerings are free of charge, but children must sign up to participate in any activities.  Information packets will be distributed to all of the in-town schools this month with details, or stop by and pick up one if your children are not yet in school.  Call the Youth Services Department with any questions at 732-5732.

The Lincoln Public Library is located at 725 Pekin St., with adult nonfiction and reference materials in the historic Carnegie Building. The Teen Summer Reading Program registration begins June 9, and the program continues through July 19.  Come in to register and begin reading and recording on your reading logs.  Turn them in for a weekly prize drawing, and the Grand Prize drawing at the end of the program.  We will also have a “Pimp Your Paws” pizza party for teens on Friday, June 27^th at 6 pm!  Get first dibs on the newest summer titles, decorate a pair of flip flops (provided), and enjoy free pizza and pop!  Call 732-5732 to register.  

Story Time

Little Listeners Lapsit Story Time is for children 6 months through 2 years old, and Beginning Readers is for 3 and 4 year olds.  Choose a class on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10 am.  Ready Readers Story time is for 5 to 7 year olds and you can choose a class on Mondays or Tuesdays at 2 pm.  This is a one time sign-up for the 7 week session.  Call 732-5732 to register. 

Art/Craft Classes 

For 8 to 12 year olds we offer Art/Craft Class on Thursdays at 2 pm.  Parents register children for each class they would like to attend starting 1 week prior to event.  Call 732-5732 to register.

Circulation News

Fix-It Lincoln – The Library now offers a new collection of books on maintenance, repair, and upkeep.  The books include topics such as automobiles, homes, lawns, health care, musical instruments, boats, and much more.  Funding for this grant was awarded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Secretary of State/Illinois State Library. 

3M Cloud – This is our new e-book database, which is an addition to our existing Library On The Go database.  Thousands of titles are available, with more being added weekly, and can be searched via our online catalog.  You will need a PIN number to get started.  Stop by our Circulation Department for the easy instructions to get started. 

Zinio – Electronic magazines have arrived!  We have a selection of over 95 titles, and more will be added.  Create your account with Zinio from our website and start reading.  Stop by the Circulation Desk for more information. 

Going on a trip? – The Circulation Staff can put a hold on any outstanding requests you may have so you will get them when you return.  Just stop by and let the staff know your travel dates. 

E-mails and text messages – Our new computer program allows patrons to receive texts and/or e-mails for notification of reserved items and overdue notices.  If you are interested in this service, please talk to a member of our Circulation Staff. 

PIN Numbers – Don’t forget to take advantage of a PIN number (password) for your account. With a PIN, you can search the entire POLARIS system, see what items you have out, and request and renew books from home. 

Gift Certificates – Need a gift idea?  You can purchase a one year Library card for an individual or complete family that lives out of the library district.  We will provide a gift certificate for presenting, and the recipient can bring it in, along with a photo ID and proof of address to receive their own Library Card.   

Book Clubs - The Annex Building Circulation Desk collects reading lists for all the Book Clubs in the area.  So if you can’t remember what you read or what you are supposed to read, we have you covered.  Drop off your lists at the Circulation Desk, or e-mail April Jensen, Circulation Manager, at [e-mail].
