LCU promotes Dr. Mariana Hwang

[March 15, 2014]  Mariana Hwang has been promoted to associate professor of Christian education in the School of Undergraduate Studies at Lincoln Christian University, effective June 1.

Hwang joined the LCU faculty in 2008 after a four-year appointment as acting director of the Philippine Department of Education and serving as director of Christian education at Presbyterian Theological Seminary in the Philippines.

She has been a guest lecturer around the world — including the countries of Brazil, Korea, China and Australia, as well as the state of California and Texas — on the topic of spiritual formation in children and families. She is a founding member of a 1981, seven-family church plant in the Philippines that has grown to an average weekly attendance of 2,000-2,500 individuals. She also serves on the board of the Society for Professors of Christian Education.

Hwang holds a bachelor's degree from Central Washington University (1988), a Master of Business Administration from the University of Idaho (1990), a Master of Divinity in family life education from Fuller Theological Seminary (1998) and a doctorate in educational studies from Talbot Theological Studies (2003).

Hwang's promotion to the rank of associate professor was the result of a recommendation process initiated by a committee of her peers. The provost and dean also review requests for faculty promotion and, upon endorsement, send the committee recommendation on to the president for final approval.

Dr. Hwang's students recently commented: "She is passionate about her faith and desire to see her students be effective in their ministries, so children and families can come to know Christ and grow in their relationship with Him."
