Toppers win in extras

[March 22, 2014]  MOUNT PULASKI — Michael Lowery is congratulated by coaches and teammates after his game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Toppers a 6-5 victory over Havana. Lowery was 3 for 3 Thursday afternoon with five RBIs to lead the Toppers to their second win on the season.

The Toppers were trailing the Ducks 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Lowery walked but advanced to second on a ground out by Beau Collier. Matthew Amidon doubled to right field and allowed Lowery to score the tying run.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth and the score tied at 5-5, a walk to Blake Collier and a single by Jordan Luczaj set the stage for Lowery's walk-off single to center field.

Collier (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Mount Pulaski.
