Lincoln Christian University's second
annual iServe Student Appreciation Day included prizes, laughter and
fun. The April 22 event at The Warehouse Student Center was
sponsored by the student development office and recognized 150
student workers for a year of exceptional service.

"It was a huge success," said Belinda Landry, director of student
success and event organizer. "It showed our student employees how
much our campus appreciates their service and contributions to the
daily operations at LCU." Nearly all 150 student workers and their
supervisors attended the celebration, which was in an open house
style. Photos of the student workers decorated the walls and were
also projected from the big-screen TV. The recognition included
nominations and awards for undergraduate and graduate Student
Employees of the Year. The honors went to undergraduate Kevin Chval
of student development and graduate Calla Wolfe of the registrar's
office.
In speaking of Chval, Lauren Grenlund, manager of the student
development office, said: "In our office, it is essential our
workers can complete a great deal of work in a timely manner, and
Kevin went above and beyond to not only complete the work, but
improve processes."
Praise rang similarly for Wolfe. LCU registrar Shawn Smith wrote
in his nomination for her: "Since one of (Wolfe's) primary tasks is
processing transcripts, she has gone above and beyond by suggesting
improvements to the process. ... Her excellent attention to detail
makes her one of the best proofreaders we have had in a student
worker."

Student employees serve in an impressive array of offices at LCU,
ranging from groundskeeping and maintenance to library and
marketing. Graduate and teaching assistantships are also part of the
student workforce and are a great aid to faculty, instructors and
administrative officers.
"I believe the term 'iServe' was chosen to identify these
students because of the campus's focus on service," Landry added,
"and it rightly reflects what they humbly and willingly do all year
long."
