Another sunny walk around the park for MS

[May 06, 2014]  LINCOLN - Every spring since 2000, the Logan County community has been gathering for a walk with a purpose around Kickapoo Creek Park. This last Sunday was perfect weather for the 13 teams and individuals who came out to support the 15th annual MS Walk.

Near 70 people were pre-signed to walk the approximately 3 mile distance, twice around the park. They first got charged up with fun music provided by Joe Hackett of Music 4 U, chocolate chip cookies and pizza.

Even the dogs were brought into the act looking cool while sporting specially designed bandanas.

Later, there were awards, recognitions and door prizes, and special this year, a drawing for a $50 gift certificate from Lincoln IGA.

Funds raised this day help to support research on multiple sclerosis and to assist those struggling with the disabling disease of the central nervous system.

MS is generally diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50. Symptoms can range from numbness in the limbs to paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatments are giving hope to those affected by the disease.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society provides programs and services that make life better for Americans with multiple sclerosis, their families and friends. The programs are designed to inform and empower people to maximize their health and independence.

According to the Greater Illinois chapter, "Twenty thousand families in Illinois live with the daily challenges of MS."
