Dana-Thomas House sponsors herb discussion May 22 with David Robson

[May 21, 2014]  SPRINGFIELD - The Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site and the University of Illinois Master Gardener Volunteers Herb Committee will co-sponsor a presentation on herbs – including the herb of the year – on Thursday, May 22.

Horticulturist David Robson, an Extension Specialist for the university, will appear 4:30-6 p.m. in the courtyard of the historic site. His presentation will emphasize artemisia, named herb of the year by the International Herb Association.

Afterward, volunteers will provide guests with a tour of the courtyard, which includes an herb garden. Refreshments made from herbs will be provided, and the Sumac Shop will have a variety of herbs for guests to purchase.

Robson served 30 years as a Springfield-based horticulture educator. He received a bachelor's degree in horticulture from Iowa State University and a master's degree in education from the University of Illinois. He has been employed by the University of Illinois Extension since 1980.

The Dana-Thomas House was built between 1902 and 1904. It is perhaps the best-preserved of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Prairie Style” homes, with more than 400 pieces of specially made art glass and original furnishings.
