Clayton Kershaw pitched six innings of shutout ball, while his
offense scored two early runs to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a win
over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Kershaw tied a season high with nine strikeouts, and impressively
escaped two jams by twice retiring the heart of the Phillies' order
with two men aboard and none out.
In doing so, the Dodgers' lefty picked up his third victory in five
starts this season and helped Los Angeles (26-23) win its NL-leading
17th road game.
Philadelphia has lost three straight to tie its season low of five
games below .500 (20-25).

Giants 6, Twins 2
Pablo Sandoval belted a three-run home run in the first inning to
give the San Francisco Giants a lead they never relinquished in a
victory over the Minnesota Twins.
Second baseman Brandon Hicks drove in two runs with a homer and a
sacrifice fly, and center fielder Angel Pagan had a double and a
triple as the Giants (30-18) became the second team in baseball to
reach the 30-win mark.

Angels 6, Royals 1
Mike Trout returned from a one-day absence to hit a home run and
throw out a runner in a double play as the Los Angeles Angels
defeated the Kansas City Royals.
Trout, who finished 2-for-4, missed Wednesday night's game with a
tight left hamstring. It was the first time all season that the
American League's 2012 Rookie of the Year did not play.

Brewers 9, Marlins 5
Mark Reynolds slugged a pair of two-run homers to lead the Milwaukee
Brewers to a win over the Miami Marlins.
Reynolds has 11 homers this season for the National League
Central-leading Brewers (29-20).
The Marlins (25-24) suffered a rare home loss. They are 19-7 at
home.

Blue Jays 3, Athletics 2
Right-hander Liam Hendriks pitched into the sixth inning and Steve
Tolleson homered as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Oakland
Athletics.
Hendriks (1-0) allowed three hits, three walks and one run - a home
run by A's first baseman Brandon Moss in the fourth - in 5 2/3
innings as the Blue Jays (27-22) won their fourth game in a row.
Oakland fell to 30-18.

Tigers 7, Rangers 2
Anibal Sanchez pitched seven innings and Austin Jackson hit a
two-run homer to help the Detroit Tigers end a four-game slide.
Second baseman Ian Kinsler doubled three times and Detroit (28-16)
first baseman Miguel Cabrera drove in his 42nd run of the season to
tie for the Major League lead.

Braves 3, Rockies 2
Atlanta Braves catcher Gerald Laird had the tie-breaking hit with
two outs in the eighth inning, and Craig Kimbrel struck out the side
in the ninth to record his 13th save as the Braves handed the
Rockies a costly loss.
Rockies (26-22) third baseman Nolan Arenado, who won a Gold Glove as
a rookie last year, fractured the middle finger on his left hand
during a head-first slide in the second inning and is expected to be
sidelined for a considerable length of time.

White Sox 6, Yankees 5
Adam Dunn slammed a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to
lift the Chicago White Sox to a victory over the New York Yankees.
The victory evened Chicago's record at 25-25 and extended its home
winning streak against the Yankees (24-23) to eight.

Orioles 8, Indians 4
Chris Davis homered, doubled and drove in four runs, and Nelson Cruz
added a solo shot as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Cleveland
Indians.
Davis, who went 2-for-4 with a walk, doubled in two runs in the
third and gave the Orioles (24-22) the lead for good with a two-run
home run in the fifth.

Reds 5, Cardinals 3
Third baseman Todd Frazier hit a three-run homer and catcher Devin
Mesoraco added a solo shot, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a victory
over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Allen Craig went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and third baseman Matt
Carpenter had two hits for St. Louis (26-22).

Rays 1, Red Sox 0
Rookie Cole Figueroa's one-out double in the bottom of the ninth
inning ended a marathon pitchers' duel and gave the Tampa Bay Rays a
win over the Boston Red Sox.
Boston's eighth consecutive loss dropped the Red Sox to 20-27 and
into last place in the American League East by percentage points
below the Rays (21-28), who won their second consecutive game.
John Lackey pitched seven scoreless innings for Boston while Chris
Archer threw six for the Rays and struck out 11.

Mariners 6, Astros 1
Seattle Mariners shortstop Willie Bloomquist hit his first home run
since Aug. 10, 2011, and the Mariners got another solid outing from
Felix Hernandez on their way to a win.
Bloomquist's blast ended a streak of 626 consecutive at-bats without
a homer, while Hernandez tossed eight innings and struck out nine
for the Mariners (24-23).

Padres 11, Cubs 1
Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal homered and Chase Headley drove in
three runs with a two-run double and a single as the San Diego
Padres set a season high for runs in a rout of the Chicago Cubs.
The Padres scored eight runs on nine hits and two walks against Cubs
right-handed starter Edwin Jackson (3-4), who lasted only four
innings.

Pirates 4, Nationals 3
Charlie Morton ended his 15-start winless streak and Pedro Alvarez
hit a two-run home run as the Pittsburgh Pirates held off the
Washington Nationals.
Morton allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings to get his first victory
