Mount Pulaski edged the Lady Lions 27-25 in the first set and
dominated in the second set 25-13.
In the first set the Lady Lions jumped out to an early 4-2 lead. A
kill by Whitney Nichols gave Mount Pulaski their first lead at 7-6.
The teams literally exchanged point for point until Nichols took
over with a kill and surprisingly three sneaky tips in a row that
caught the Lady Lions scrappy defense off-guard. The heavy-hitting
senior then followed with a couple more kills. It was Nichols'
monster kill that made a deafening sound and put the Lady Toppers up
19-15. Little by little the small but mighty LSA team edged their
way closer and eventually tied the score at 24-24 on a hit out of
bounds by Maddy Davis. LSA would take the lead 25-24 on a serve that
barely made it over the net but a kill by Lilly Pickett would tie
the score again at 25-25. Mount Pulaski would go on to win this set
27-25 after an LSA defender hit the ball into the net for the final
point scored.
Mount Pulaski never trailed in the second set. The Lady Toppers
jumped ahead 2-0 early and that lead escalated rather quickly to 8-4
on a kill by Davis. Mount Pulaski again doubled up on the score at
16-8 and a whole lot of cheers were heard around the gym. The Lady
Toppers were settling in and playing their kind of volleyball.
Moments later the Lady Toppers were 25-13 winners and receiving yet
another regional championship plaque.
