[November 18, 2014]  DECATUR - Millikin Volleyball Falls in NCAA Tournament - The Millikin University volleyball team lost to Thomas More 3-2 at the NCAA Tournament Regionals on November 14 at Washington University-St. Louis.

The match opened with each team winning a set by the identical score of 25-20. Thomas More won the first set with the Big Blue taking set two. The third set went to the Big Blue 25-23 with the Saints edging Millikin 27-25 in the fourth set. In the fifth and deciding set, Thomas More won 15-8.

Millikin was led by senior Audrey Krajec (West Salem, Edwards County) with 24 kills and 17 digs. Freshman Erin Syversen (Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Waukesha West H.S.) had 13 kills and 20 digs. Seniors Sara Travis (Schaumburg, H.S.) and Jade Becker (Mt. Zion H.S.) had strong matches in the final game of their careers. Travis had 12 kills and three blocks and Becker had 10 kills and two blocks. Christina Capuani (Addison, Addison Trail H.S.) had a team high 30 digs. Junior Geena Mancuso (Naperville, Waubonsie Valley H.S.) had 15 digs. Alicia Thompson (Decatur, MacArthur H.S.) had 27 set assists followed by Jenna Hilgers (Mason City, Illini Central H.S.) with 24 assists and two service aces.

Millikin finished the season 30-10.

Big Blue Men's Basketball Opens with Win

The Millikin men's basketball team opened its season with a 68-52 win over Westminster College in the CCIW\SLIAC Challenge in Elmhurst, Illinois on November 15.

Millikin never trailed in the game and had a 35-27 advantage at halftime.

The Big Blue shot 40 percent from the field while holding Westminster to 33 percent. Millikin was 23-27 from the free throw line. Millikin won the rebounding battle 41-39.

TJ Griffin (St. Louis, Mo., McCluer H.S.) led the Big Blue with 21 points. Freshman Nathan Biggs (Chesterfield, Missouri, Parkway Central H.S.) scored 16 points and had six rebounds. Freshman Zach Long (Indianapolis, Indiana, Pike H.S.) had a team high eight rebounds and scored four points.

Millikin will travel to Aurora University on November 18. The Big Blue's home opener is November 25 at 7 p.m. against Principia.

Millikin Women's Basketball Opens Season with Loss

The Millikin women's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season with a 75-70 loss to Westminster College on November 15 at the CCIW\SLIAC Challenge in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Alyssa Saklak (Schaumburg, H.S.) led Millikin with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Yip Ypya (Ludlow, Paxton-Buckley-Loda H.S.) scored 14 points followed by Holly Haskins (Decatur, St. Teresa H.S.) with 10. Junior Hannah Millington (Argenta, Argenta-Oreana H.S.) had a team high 12 rebounds and six points.

Millikin will host Eureka College on Tuesday, November 18 at 7 p.m.

Millikin Football Drops Season Finale

The Millikin football team dropped its final game of the 2014 season losing 59-6 at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on November 15.

It was a 10-0 Augustana lead at halftime and the Big Blue made it a 16-6 game with six minutes and 40 seconds left in the third quarter. The Vikings then scored 43 straight points including 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Millikin's touchdown came on a 29 yard pass from Nick Pippin (Bourbonnais, Bradley Bourbonnais H.S.) to Brady Cufaude (Pekin, H.S.). Pippin was 19-37-2 passing for 191 yards. Senior Justin Brooks (Bloomington, H.S.) rushed for 159 yards on 34 carries. Cufaude had 10 catches for 116 yards.

Matt Madrigal (Joliet, Joliet Catholic H.S.) led Millikin with 11 tackles followed by Jake Gates (Mattoon, H.S.) with nine.

Millikin finishes the year at 3-7, 1-6 while Augustana ends at 5-5, 4-3.

Cross Country Ends Season

The Millikin men's and women's cross country team wrapped up its 2014 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin on November 15. The Millikin women finished in 25th place while the Big Blue men were 32nd.

Millikin's top female runner was freshman Alivia Powers (Wapella, Clinton H.S.) who finished in 97th place covering the 6K course in 23:35.20. Powers time places her sixth on the Millikin all-time performance list.

The Millikin men's top runner was Timee McElroy (Mt. Zion, H.S.) in 168th place in a time of 27:38.30.
