ISU remained at No. 7 in the FCS Coaches Poll and kept its
No. 8 ranking in The Sports Network FCS Top 25, following their
win over the Coyotes. The Redbirds were previously ranked as
high as No. 6 in both polls three weeks ago and have been ranked
for 10-consecutive weeks.
The Redbirds have a lot at stake when they host in-state rival
Southern Illinois (6-5, 3-4 MVFC), Saturday, at Hancock Stadium.
With a win, the ISU would secure at least a share of the
Missouri Valley Football Conference championship with North
Dakota State and the first 10-win regular season in school
history. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., with the game broadcast live
on CSN Chicago.
A total of six Missouri Valley Football teams are ranked in the
Top 25 this week, as the league heads into its final week of the
regular season. North Dakota State (10-1, 6-1 MVFC) moved up to
No. 3 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 and were ranked No. 4 in
the FCS Coaches Poll this week, following their 45-10 road
victory at Missouri State on Saturday. The Redbirds follow at
No. 7/8 respectively, as the only other league team in the Top
10.
Northern Iowa (7-4, 5-2 MVFC) fell one spot outside the Top 10
at No. 11 in both polls and were followed by South Dakota State
(7-4, 4-3) at No. 15 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 and No. 16
in the FCS Coaches Poll. Indiana State (7-4, 4-3 MVFC) was next
at No. 18 in both rankings and Youngstown State (7-4, 4-3 MVFC)
rounded out the league’s representation at No. 20 in both polls.
The No. 7 Redbirds will wrap up the regular season and play for
at least a share of the MVFC title Saturday, when they host
in-state rival Southern Illinois at Hancock Stadium, with
kickoff set for 1 p.m.
