4-H members earned the right to attend by excelling in their
project work. Each member selected first completed and submitted
their 4-H records at the local county level and then moved on to
competition at the state level with over 100 applicants. Members are
evaluated on their work in project mastery, leadership, community
service and citizenship throughout their entire 4-H career.
Illinois will be represented at National 4-H Congress by 26 state
4-H award winners that include Logan County 4-H members Troy
Rawlings of New Holland and Alyssa Zimmer of Lincoln. Troy was
awarded a trip in the Animal Science project area and Alyssa

area.

“National 4-H Congress offers states an opportunity to
provide these outstanding 4-H youth with an expanded educational
experience through seminars, community service projects, and tours
sponsored by local and national 4-H program donors,” said Debra
Stocker, University of Illinois Extension 4-H youth development
specialist.
Highlighting this year’s event will be the premier expert on
school-to-work transition, Eric Chester. He will be joined
throughout the week by CNN correspondent Nancy Grace;
internationally known speaker, songwriter/recording artist, and
author Dan Clark; and Holocaust survivor Dr. Eugen Schoenfeld.
All Congress delegates will participate in special cultural programs
during the International Dinner and a night of programming at the
Atlanta History Center. Other experiences during National 4-H
Congress include delegate participation in workshops focusing on
cultural differences, team leadership development, and the power of
youth. Delegates will also have the opportunity to tour locations
around Atlanta, such as CNN, Turner Field, Georgia Aquarium, The
Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, and the birthplace and home
church of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
