Varsity Dramatic Duet Acting event at the Charleston
Invitation Tournament Saturday.
This is Woods’ first year and tournament as part of the LCHS
Speech Team and Tanner’s second year, having qualified for
state competition in his debut year. |

LINCOLN - The LCHS Speech team sent 15
of the 22 entered events into the final round and improved this
weekend to 6th place at the Charleston Invitation Tournament
Saturday with several finalists, including junior Braden Tanner and
freshman Justin Woods winning the varsity Dramatic Duet Acting
event.
“To say we were overwhelmed with the number of finalists is an
understatement,” said Jennifer Keith, head coach. “We are blessed
with a great amount of young talent this year.”

Varsity finalists in addition to the DDA champs were: sophomore
Claire Conrady, 2nd in Original Comedy and juniors Colton Clark and
McKenzie Landers, 4th in Humorous Duet Acting. Both events are
junior varsity entries but performed well enough to be bumped up to
the varsity finals. Conrady and junior Zac McCray also placed 5th in
Dramatic Duet Acting and McCray was 6th in Dramatic Interpretation
as well.
Finalists at the Charleston Invitation Saturday from the
LCHS Speech Team are: Belle Smith, 2nd in Junior Varsity
Oratorical Declamation and 2nd in Junior Varsity
Informational Speaking; Claire Conrady, 2nd in Varsity
Original Comedy and 5th in Varsity Dramatic Duet Acting with
partner Zac McCray; McCray, also 6th in Varsity Dramatic
Interpretation; Lena Stapleton, 2nd in Junior Varsity
Dramatic Interpretation; McKenzie Landers, 4th in Varsity
Humorous Duet Acting with partner Colton Clark; Shelby
Harrison, 3rd in Junior Varsity Original Comedy and 5th in
Junior Varsity Special Occasion Speaking; back: Caleb White,
6th in Junior Varsity Prose Speaking; Reagen Tibbs, 3rd in
Junior Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking; Braden Tanner and
Justin Woods, Champions in Varsity Dramatic Duet Acting;
Clark, 2nd in Junior Varsity Special Occasion Speaking; and
Madeline Phillis, 6th in Junior Varsity Poetry Reading and
7th in Junior Varsity Oratorical Declamation. |

Junior Varsity finalists were: Clark, 2nd in Special Occasion
Speaking; sophomore Belle Smith, 2nd in both Oratorical
Declamation and Informational Speaking; junior Madeline Phillis
was 6th in Poetry and 7th in Oratorical Declamation; sophomore
Reagen Tibbs was 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking; junior Lena
Stapleton was 2nd in Dramatic Interpretation; sophomore Caleb
White was 6th in Prose Reading; and junior Shelby Harrison was
3rd in Original Comedy and 5th in Special Occasion Speaking.
The team travels to Metamora on Saturday to compete with 24 other
teams, the largest tournament of the season.
