NHL roundup: Jets acquire Budaj from Canadiens

 The Winnipeg Jets acquired goaltender Peter Budaj and forward Patrick Holland from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Eric Tangradi.

Budaj, 32, is a nine-year veteran with a career record of 124-107-36 with a 2.76 goals against average. In 24 games for the Canadiens last season, he posted a 10-8-3 record with a 2.51 goals against average.

Holland, 22, is a third-year pro who spent the past two seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Montreal's American Hockey League affiliate, scoring 45 points in 126 games. He has yet to record a point in five career NHL games.

Tangradi, 25, recorded 6 points in 55 games as a left winger for the Jets last season, and will report to Hamilton. The Philadelphia native was a second-round pick by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Also, the Jets reassigned the following players from training camp: Ben Chiarot (St. John's of the AHL), Nik Ehlers (Halifax of the QMHL), Keaton Ellerby (St. John's), Patrick Holland (St. John's), Josh Morrissey (Prince Albert of the WHL), Nic Petan (Portland of the WHL) and Danny Taylor (released).



---New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said center Derek Stepan could open the season on long-term injured reserve. Stepan, the team's top center, is expected to miss more than a month with a broken leg suffered Sept. 9, and would miss a minimum of 10 games if placed on IR.

Vigneault said a decision will be made Monday, and that he is leaning toward keeping 14 forwards on the roster. All teams must get down to the 23-man roster by Tuesday.

---The Arizona Coyotes signed forward Laurent Dauphin to a three-year entry-level contract. Dauphin, 19, has a goal and four assists with four penalty minutes in four games with Chicoutimi of the QMJHL this season.

---The St. Louis Blues assigned forwards Cody Beach, Colin Fraser and Peter Mueller to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. Beach, 22, appeared in three games for the Blues during the preseason, serving 14 penalty minutes. Fraser, 29, appeared in three games for the Blues this preseason, posting a plus-2 rating.

--- Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner left the team's preseason finale against the Washington Capitals after taking an elbow to the side of his head from defenseman Matt Niskanen just after a faceoff.

The team officially announced Skinner, who has a history of concussion issues, had an upper-body injury.

---The Los Angeles Kings signed right winger Justin Auger and defenseman Zachary Leslie to three-year entry-level contacts. Auger scored 11 goals while adding 12 assists in 53 games with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League last season. Leslie scored 14 goals while adding 36 assists for the Storm in the team's OHL Championship campaign this past season.

Both players were assigned to the Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester on Sept. 26.

--The Calgary Flames assigned forwards Sven Baertschi and Josh Jooris and goaltender Joni Ortio to the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, the team announced.

---The Columbus Blue Jackets claimed forward Jack Skille off waivers from the New York Islanders.

The Blue Jackets also placed forwards Boone Jenner, Nathan Horton and Sonny Milano, and defenseman Ryan Murray on injured reserve.

Skille, 27, had four goals and six penalty minutes in 16 games with Columbus last season. He added an assist in six playoff games.

---The Chicago Blackhawks assigned forward Peter Regin and goaltender Michael Leighton to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
