[October 06, 2014]  Illinois starting quarterback Wes Lunt is out for the rest of the season with a broken left leg.

Fighting Illini coach Tim Beckman said Lunt broke his left fibula during the 38-27 loss to Purdue and will be out four to six weeks. Beckman was optimistic the redshirt sophomore could return late in the season.

"I'm very disappointed for Wes, his family and the Fighting Illini family, but I know we all will respond to this situation in a positive way," Beckman said. "He's having an outstanding season and we're very hopeful to have him back on the field for the final three games."

Lunt, a transfer from Oklahoma State in his first season as the starter, leads the Big Ten with 313.8 passing yards and is in the top 20 in the nation in yards and touchdown passes (13).

Backup Reilly O'Toole is likely to start in Lunt's absence, but Beckman has not ruled out playing Aaron Bailey, a player the team projected as a redshirt this season.
