October Library notes [October 07, 2014]  Costume Exchange - The Library will host a Costume Exchange on Friday, October 10 from 3 to 5 pm, and Saturday, October 11 from 9am to 1 pm. Bring a clean, gently used children’s costume to the library and exchange it for another one. This is a good way to pass along outgrown costumes and pick up those larger sizes as your children grow. Donations of costumes will also be accepted. You may bring your costumes to the library during business hours October 6 through 9 and receive a ticket to redeem during the event October 10 and 11. Teen Read Week - Teen Read Week is October 13 – 18, come in and see displays in the Young Adult section. Learn how to qualify for the Teen Movie viewing of MOCKINGJAY on November 22 at the Lincoln Theatre 4. Teens will also have a Harry Potter Party on Friday, November 7, from 6 to 8 pm. The Lincoln Public Library is located at 725 Pekin St., with adult nonfiction and reference materials in the historic Carnegie Building. Story Time

The Fall session of Story Times continues through the week of November 3rd. We offer a class for 6 months to 2 years old, 3 to 4 years old, and 5 to 7 years old. The younger groups meet on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10 am, and the 5 to 7s meet on Mondays at 3:30 pm. To register for the session, please drop by the Youth Services desk or call 732-5732.

Art/Craft Class

The Fall session of Art/Craft Classes continues through November 6. This class is for 8 to 12 year olds, and meets each Thursday at 3:30. Kids must register for each class they want to attend starting 1 week ahead, and a listing of the projects is displayed in the Annex. To register, please drop by the Youth Services desk or call 732-5732.

Circulation News

Fix-It Lincoln – The Library now offers a new collection of books on maintenance, repair, and upkeep. The books include topics such as automobiles, homes, lawns, health care, musical instruments, boats, and much more. Funding for this grant was awarded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Secretary of State/Illinois State Library.

3M Cloud – This is our new e-book database, which is an addition to our existing Library On The Go database. Thousands of titles are available, with more being added weekly, and can be searched via our online catalog. You will need a PIN number to get started. Stop by our Circulation Department for the easy instructions to get started.

Zinio – An electronic magazine collection with hundreds of titles. Create your account with Zinio from our website and start reading. Stop by the Circulation Desk for more information.

Going on a trip? – The Circulation Staff can put a hold on any outstanding requests you may have so you will get them when you return. Just stop by and let the staff know your travel dates.

E-mails and text messages – Our computer program allows patrons to receive texts and/or
e-mails for notification of reserved items and overdue notices. If you are interested in this service, please talk to a member of our Circulation Staff. 

PIN Numbers – Don’t forget to take advantage of a PIN number (password) for your account. With a PIN, you can search the entire POLARIS system, see what items you have out, and request and renew books from home.

Gift Certificates – Need a gift idea? You can purchase a one year Library card for an individual or complete family that lives out of the library district. We will provide a gift certificate for presenting, and the recipient can bring it in, along with a photo ID and proof of address to receive their own Library Card.

Book Clubs - The Annex Building Circulation Desk collects reading lists for all the Book Clubs in the area. So if you can’t remember what you read or what you are supposed to read, we have you covered. Drop off your lists at the Circulation Desk, or e-mail April Jensen, Circulation Manager, at [e-mail]
