On Tuesday night, the 11-9 Red Lions of Lincoln Christian
University (LCU) hosted Fontbonne University (FU) at Gaston Arena.
This is the first game in a home-and-home series that will take LCU
to Fontbonne for their next game in two weeks. After a strong start,
LCU faltered and let the next three sets slip from their grasp,
falling in the end to the Fontbonne Griffins, 3-1.
In the first set, LCU came out strong and dominated the visiting
Griffins. Taylor Cremeens (JR/Hopedale, IL) had 15 assists. Alicia
Carson (SR/Bloomingdale, MI) had 6 kills and Abbey Akre (SO/Lisbon,
IL) had 5. Nakiyha Wood (SO/Springfield, IL) went 3/3 turning each
of her attacks into kills. Libero Emma Recker (SR/Clinton, IL) had 9
digs. Jennifer Parsons (JR/Springfield, IL) served 8 straight points
with 1 ace during that run. LCU won the first set handily, 25-15.
The Griffins put the pressure on and led most of the second set.
Their lead grew to as much as 8 points. LCU rallied back, but was
unable to close the gap. Fontbonne won the second set, 25-21.
The third set was a near repeat of the second set, as Fontbonne
jumped out to a lead and LCU ran out of time and points as they
tried to close the gap with another late rally. The Griffins held
off the Red Lions 25-20.

The tables turned in the fourth set as Fontbonne found their stride
and ran over LCU as handily as they had been in LCU's dominant first
set. LCU fell in the fourth set, 25-16.
