LCHS Girls Tennis

[October 13, 2014]  LINCOLN - Kena Bere was termed "The most improved Player" in the Central State 8 after she beat four worthy opponents in the Girls Tennis Singles to advance to the championship game where she placed Second.

In her first match Bere beat Hayes (Eisenhower High School, Decatur) 6-0; 6-0. In her second match Bere beat Anderson (Jacksonville High School) 6-0; 6-0. With this win, she moved to the semi-finals where she beat a very tough opponent Anna Lytchakov (Glenwood High school) 6-4; 6-3. In the championship match, she lost to Natalie Odin (Glenwood High School) 6-4; 3-6; 0-6.

Kena started playing tennis summer last year (2013). Asked about her remarkable improvement, she stated that it is a combination of hard work and her personal relationship with God. She stated that she prays at every match, and does her best to represent God well by calling scores correctly and being kind to every opponent.

Another good report for Lincoln High School came through the doubles pair of Megan Joseph and Lexi Tibbs. The pair advanced to the Semi-finals in the consolation bracket having beaten Scobbie/Patel (Jacksonville) 6-2; 6-1 then lost to Flattery/Grieser (SHG) 6- 1; 6-1. In the consolation bracket, they beat King/McPaland (Springfield) 6-3;3-6; 10-8 then lost to Kumerow/Finley (Rochester High School) 4-6; 1-6.

Coach Bere is exceptionally proud of her team and hopes they will do well in the Sectionals to be held in Bloomington Next weekend on October 18th.
