Heavy rains Monday did what the Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Angels and Baltimore Orioles (so far) have failed to do -- slow down the Kansas City Royals.

The Royals, who won their first six playoff games, and Orioles were rained out Monday in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. Game 3 has been rescheduled for a 7:07 p.m. CT start Tuesday.

The scheduled starting pitchers for Monday, Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen and Royals right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, will start Tuesday.

Both managers were noncommittal on who would start Wednesday.

The revamped ALCS schedule has the fourth game scheduled for Wednesday, a 3:07 p.m. CT start. If Game 5 is necessary, it would start at 3:07 p.m. Thursday. Kansas City leads the best-of-seven series 2-0.

--The Arizona Diamondbacks named Chip Hale as the team's seventh manager.

Hale, 49, replaces manager Kirk Gibson, who was fired last month with three games remaining in the season.

Hale spent the last three seasons' as an Oakland A's bench coach. Hale has no managerial experience at the major league level, but he did manage Arizona's Triple-A team for three seasons.

--The St. Louis Cardinals plan to keep catcher Yadier Molina on their active roster for now despite a strained left oblique muscle he sustained in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series.

Manager Mike Matheny was encouraged that Molina was able to throw Monday, although he did not swing the bat.

The Cardinals carry three catchers, including Tony Cruz and A.J. Pierzynski. Matheny did not announce his starting catcher for Game 3 on Tuesday.

He said he hopes to be able to use Molina off the bench.
