[October 14, 2014]  DECATUR —  Big Blue Tennis Ties School Record - The Millikin women's tennis team defeated Concordia-Chicago 9-0 earning its ninth win of the season tying a Millikin women's tennis record for wins in a season. The Big Blue improved to 9-5 on the season tying the win mark achieved in 1995 and 1996. The match was played indoors at the Decatur Athletic Club on October 12.

Paige Bequette (Edwardsville, H.S.), Molly Angell (Ottawa, H.S.), Elizabeth Breitbach (Peoria, Notre Dame H.S.), Melissa Donovan (Antioch, H.S.), Amber Morgan (Taylorville, H.S.) and Meagan Booth (West Dundee, Jacobs H.S.) all scored singles wins for the Big Blue. Breitbach and Morgan are closing in on the Millikin record for individual match wins in a season at 15. Breitbach is 13-4 and Morgan is 12-5 on the year.

Millikin defeated NCAA Division II opponent the University of Illinois Springfield 8-1 on October 11 at the Fairview Tennis Center in Decatur.

Millikin got singles wins from Angell, Aubrie Sabin (Rockford, Rock Valley CC), Brietbach, Donovan and Morgan. Sabin and Donovan and the duo of Breitbach and Morgan scored doubles victories for Millikin.

Millikin lost to Illinois Wesleyan 5-4 on Oct. 8 in Bloomington. The teams split the three singles matches with Millikin’s Bequette winning at number one singles 6-2, 6-3. Other Millikin singles winners were Breitbach and Donovan.



The match was decided in the doubles matches with the Titans winning two out of three. Millikin's lone win went to Sabin and Donovan in an 8-5 decision.

Millikin plays at the CCIW Women's Tennis Championships set for October 16-18 in Bloomington, Illinois.


Millikin Volleyball Loses at #22 Carthage

In a battle to two Top 25 teams, the 20th ranked Millikin volleyball team lost a road conference match at #22 Carthage College 3-1 on October 7 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Millikin is now 18-4, 1-1.

Carthage took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-22 before Millikin rallied to win the third set 25-23. Carthage jumped out to a seven point advantage in the fourth set and then led 20-14. Millikin scored five straight points to pull to 20-19 before Carthage closed out the set with a 25-21 victory.

Audrey Krajec (West Salem, Edwards County H.S.) led Millikin with 21 kills and 13 digs. Jenna Hilgers (Mason City, Illini Central H.S.) had 37 set assists.

Millikin will host Augustana College on October 14 at 7 p.m. in the Griswold Center.

Millikin Football Falls to Illinois Wesleyan

The Millikin football team lost to Illinois Wesleyan University 31-7 in front of a large Big Blue Homecoming crowd on October 11 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur. Millikin is now 2-3, 0-2 while Illinois Wesleyan improves to 3-2, 1-1.

Millikin’s scored was a 10 yard return of a blocked punt by Chase Robbins (Normal, Normal Community). The Big Blue’s Mykal Neal (Broadview, Nazareth Academy) was credited with the block.

Millikin's had four players with nine tackles led by Jowonis Edwards (Normal, Normal Community (H.S.) who had three pass break-ups. Matt Madrigal (Joliet, Joliet Catholic) had nine tackles including three tackles for a loss. Travis Goveia (Downs, Tri-Valley H.S.) had nine stops with 1.5 tackles for a loss. Adam Rosner (Frankfort, Lincoln Way North H.S.) had nine tackles with 2.5 tackles for a loss.

Millikin will host Wheaton College on October 18 at 6 p.m.


Big Blue Men’s Soccer Loses to Wheaton

The Millikin men’s soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to #10 Wheaton College on October 11 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Illinois.

Trailing 1-0, Millikin tied the game at the 48:49 mark on a goal by Matt Briars (Palatine, Fremd H.S.) on assists from Nick Abel (Schaumburg, H.S.) and Zach Solorio (Elk Grove Village, Elk Grove H.S.).


Wheaton would take back the lead in the 62nd minute and score again 10 minutes later.

Wheaton out shot Millikin 20-7 with the Big Blue’s Daniel Sinclair (Peoria, Richwoods H.S.) recording 13 saves in goal.

Millikin is now 5-6-1, 0-2 while Wheaton improves to 12-2, 2-0.

Millikin will host Elmhurst College on October 17 at 7 p.m.
