NHL game roundup: Flyers remain winless

[October 15, 2014]  PHILADELPHIA -- Rookie William Karlsson scored in his first shootout attempt to lift the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

Tim Jackman, Devante Smith-Pelly and Matt Beleskey scored goals in regulation for the Ducks.

Jakub Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Mark Streit had goals for the Flyers, who remain winless in four games to start the season.

Ducks goaltender Frederik Anderson made 39 saves and also stopped Voracek, Matt Read and Sean Couturier in the shootout.

Islanders 6, Rangers 3

NEW YORK -- Kyle Okposo, Brock Nelson and Mikhail Grabovski scored goals over the first 5:20 of the third period to propel the New York Islanders past the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

John Tavares, Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy also scored for the Islanders while goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 40 shots for the win.

Rick Nash scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season, and Derick Brassard also scored for the Rangers, who lost their third game in a row. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 21 saves.


Stars 4, Blue Jackets 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Tyler Seguin had three goals and an assist, and left winger Jamie Benn had one goal and three assists, leading Dallas to a win at Columbus.

Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves in the win.

Ryan Johansen scored both goals for Columbus -- his first two of the season -- while Jack Johnson had two assists and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves.

Sharks 6, Capitals 5 (SO)

WASHINGTON -- San Jose rode an early three-goal lead to a wild shootout win over Washington, extending its season-opening win streak to three games.

Joe Pavelski scored the only goal in the shootout while San Jose got a pair of goals from Matt Irwin and one each from John Scott, Joe Pavelski and Tommy Wingels in regulation.

Alex Ovechkin scored twice for Washington, with Marcus Johnasson, Mike Green and Troy Brouwer also adding goals in regulation.

Maple Leafs 3, Avalanche 2 (OT)

TORONTO -- Phil Kessel scored 34 seconds into overtime and Toronto defeated Colorado.

Joffrey Lupul tied the game with his second goal of the season at 10:36 of the third period.

Ryan O'Reilly and Matt Duchene scored in regulation for Colorado while James van Riemsdyk also scored for the Maple Leafs .

Sabres 4, Hurricanes 3 (SO)

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Zemgus Girgensons scored in the eighth round of the shootout, and Buffalo defeated Carolina in a matchup of previously winless teams at PNC Arena.

Marcus Foligno scored two goals, one each in the first and third periods, sandwiched around a Torrey Mitchell goal for Buffalo.

Riley Nash, Chris Terry and Zach Boychuk scored in regulation for Carolina.

Devils 2, Lightning 1

TAMPA, Fla. -- New jersey followed that script once again, using defense and timely scoring to edge past Tampa at Amalie Arena.

Mike Cammalleri scored a power-play goal at 11:19 of the third period and goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 26 of 27 shots and the Devils stayed perfect on the road so far this season.

Travis Zajac scored the other goal for New Jersey and Alex Killorn scored Tampa's lone goal.

Flames 3, Predators 2 (SO)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --Calgary's Joe Colborne scored the only goal of a shootout and goaltender Karri Ramo stopped all three shots to lead their team to a win on Nashville.

Nasville's Filip Forsberg and Calgary's T.J. Brodie traded goas lint he first and Calgary's Mark Giordano and Nashville's Mike Ribeiro traded goals in the second for all the goals in regulation.
 


Kings 6, Oilers 1

LOS ANGELES -- Rookie left winger Tanner Pearson scored twice, and Los Angeles routed Edmonton at Staples Center.

The Kings (2-1-1) beat the Oilers for the seventh time in a row and extended their point streak to a franchise-record 11 straight against Edmonton. The Oilers (0-2-1) remain winless this season.

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots. He was 21 seconds away from tying Rogie Vachon for most shutouts in Kings history (32). beforeEdmonton center Matt Hendricks recorded his first goal of the season.
