Monday evening, Main Street Lincoln president Tracy Welch
addressed the city council and offered details of the event. He
noted Main Street Lincoln will be dissolving at the end of the year,
so this will be the last trick or treat event it will host.
He said this year, there are 14 businesses around the downtown
square that have signed on to participate in trick or treat. There
are a number of other businesses who have donated gifts to be given
at the end of the parade around town.

The downtown businesses that will give out treats to children at
this year’s event include: (listed alphabetically) Abe's Carmelcorn,
Beans & Such, By the Bean, Cape Landing, Cherished Memories, Lincoln
Art Institute, Lloyd & Lunas, Mama's Arcade, Mary Todd Hallmark, MKS
Jewelers, National Rent-to-own, Prairie Year's, Sherwin Williams,
			and Simply Homespun.

In addition, door-prizes were donated by Abe's Carmelcorn, Big R,
Culver's, Mary Todd Hallmark, McDonald's, Prairie Years, Wal-Mart
			and Wendy's.

Welch said at the end of the walking parade, Joe Ryan of Country
Financial and Sorrento’s will serve food and a beverage in the
			parking lot of City Hall.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning in Latham Park with
registration. The walking parade around town will then begin at
10:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 11:30 a.m. in the City Hall
			parking lot.

Welch concluded saying he wanted to acknowledge city alderwoman
Jonie Tibbs. Tibbs serves as the city liaison to the Main Street
organization. Welch said Tibbs had taken time out from her schedule
to visit each one of the participating businesses and encourage the
sign up for this year’s event.

She had also visited other area businesses and sought
donations for the door prizes. Welch said there were going to be
some great gifts handed out this year thanks to Tibbs’ efforts.
Welch commented that the fact that so many said yes to her
speaks to how well Tibbs is thought of in the city of Lincoln.
He said he appreciated her commitment to the Main Street
				organization.

Main Street estimated that the event last year drew in about 300
kids, parents and escorts. Welch said this year, the
organization wants to go out with a bang. He is anticipating
that with the large number of merchants participating as well as
the food, and door prizes that the turnout could be even larger
				than last year.

Main Street Lincoln will host one last event before dissolving
this year. The annual Christmas parade will still be in the
hands of that organization and is being planned for Thursday,
				December 4th at 5:30 p.m.

The Lincoln/Logan Chamber of Commerce will be responsible this
year for the annual Small Business Saturday event which is held
on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Plans are currently underway
				for that event.
