LINCOLN - Almost a year ago, a public
meeting brought together over 30 individuals to discuss the bicycle and
trailway master plan developed under the guidance of the Logan County
Regional Planning Commission. The plan was completed by Farnsworth Group
using a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and
provides a framework to facilitate transportation enhancements for
bicyclists, pedestrians, in-line skaters and non-motorized vehicles
throughout all of Logan County. Since then, much progress has been made
to make the trails a reality in Logan County. |

Why are trails important to Logan County?
“Trailway systems enhance the overall quality of life and give
people an opportunity to incorporate exercise into their daily
routine. Research has shown that walking and biking may help reduce
cases of asthma, decrease rates of obesity, lower health care costs
and even improve mental health,” said Angela Stoltzenburg, Manager
			of the Healthy Communities Partnership.

Healthy Communities Partnership (HCP) is a collaborative
organization comprised of dozens of community agencies and is
financially supported by the Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation.
HCP is collaborating with the Logan County Regional Planning
Commission to host a second public meeting to discuss the status of
the trail and encourage others to get involved.

The public is invited to the Lincoln Park District ballroom on
Tuesday, October 28 at 6:30pm to hear about progress, next steps and
			opportunities to join the effort.
