Masterson was acquired from the Cleveland Indians in July and in
six starts went 2-3 with a 7.90 ERA. He allowed five runs in 4 1/3
innings of a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
Also on Tuesday, the Cardinals activated reliever Jason Motte from
the 15-day disabled list and added four others to their expanded
roster, calling up left-handers Marco Gonzales, Nick Greenwood and
Tyler Lyons and catcher Tony Cruz. One of the three pitching
call-ups is expected to start in Masterson's spot in the rotation.
---The Philadelphia Phillies recalled right-hander Mike Adams from
the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday.
Adams has worked only 17 innings in 19 games this year for the
Phillies after a shoulder injury sidelined him in June. He is 2-1
with a 2.12 ERA.
---Toronto Blue Jays infielder Brett Lawrie will not return for the
remainder of the season after he was moved from the 15-day to the
60-day disabled list.
Lawrie suffered an oblique injury in early August and has not played
since then. In 70 games this season, he batted .247 with 12 homers
and 38 RBIs.
---The New York Yankees announced that they will wear a special
patch depicting shortstop Derek Jeter's final season logo on the
