Nationals 8, Dodgers 5 (14)
Adam LaRoche stole the show, driving in five runs as the Washington
Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in a dramatic game that
stretched 14 innings.
The Nationals used a record 26 players, including 10 pitchers, in a
game that lasted five hours, 34 minutes.
But nobody had the impact of LaRoche, who entered the game as a
pinch hitter in the ninth and went 2-for-3 with a season-high five
RBIs.
He drove in the game-winner in the 14th as the Nationals won a
series at Dodger Stadium for the first time since 2005.

Rockies 9, Giants 2
The Colorado Rockies walloped four home runs and buried the San
Francisco Giants.
Corey Dickerson hit two homers, giving him 22 for the season, and
the Rockies took the lead with four runs in the fifth inning, before
scoring four more in the sixth.
The loss was just the second in nine games for the Giants, who
remained two games behind the Dodgers in the National League West.

Mariners 2, Athletics 1
Felix Hernandez outdueled Jon Lester in a strong pitching battle as
the Seattle Mariners came from behind to beat the Oakland Athletics.
Hernandez (14-5) continued his dominance of the A's. He allowed one
run on three hits over eight innings, improving to 19-7 for his
career against Oakland and 4-0 in five starts this season.
Lester (13-10) gave up only two runs on seven hits over eight
innings and fell to 0-3 over his last four starts. He won his first
three outings for Oakland after being traded by Boston to the A's on
July 31.

Orioles 6, Reds 0
Miguel Gonzalez threw a four-hitter in the first complete game of
his career and the Baltimore Orioles won in a shutout over the
Cincinnati Reds.
Gonzalez (8-7) did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and held
the Reds (66-73) to one until the eighth as the first-place Orioles
(81-57) maintained a 9 1/2 game lead in the American League East.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 1
Hiroki Kuroda pitched seven solid innings and Brian McCann tied a
career high with four hits, leading the New York Yankees to victory
over the Boston Red Sox.
Kuroda (10-8) won his third straight decision by allowing a run and
four hits. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk while
throwing 73 of 95 pitches for strikes.

Indians 7, Tigers 0
Danny Salazar pitched an eight-hit shutout gem, his first career
complete game, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers.
Salazar (6-6) threw 118 pitches, struck out nine and did not walk a
batter.
Detroit right-hander Justin Verlander (12-12) gave up seven runs,
six earned, on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings as the Tigers fell 1 1/2
games behind the first-place Royals in the American League Central.

Royals 4, Rangers 1
Left-hander Jason Vargas threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings and left
fielder Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer as the Kansas City Royals
defeated the last-place Texas Rangers to sweep the three-game
series.
Vargas (11-7), who had given up 21 hits and seven runs in 12 innings
in losing his previous two starts, limited the Rangers to six hits,
walked none and struck out five before leaving after 102 pitches.

Astros 4, Angels 1
Colin McHugh pitched another strong game and the Houston Astros beat the
Los Angeles Angles.
McHugh kept the powerful Los Angeles batters in check. He was replaced
with two outs in the eighth inning, having allowed one run on four hits
and striking out eight.
In seven outings since August, McHugh has allowed nine earned runs,
going 4-0 with a 1.49 ERA.

Cardinals 1, Pirates 0
Center fielder Peter Bourjos hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of
the ninth to give the St. Louis Cardinals victory over the Cincinnati
Reds and a sweep of their three-game series.
In a game dominated by strong pitching, St. Louis starter Shelby Miller
went seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and issuing three
walks while fanning five.
Pittsburgh's Edinson Volquez worked 6 1/3 innings, yielding only three
hits and walking two with five strikeouts.

Cubs 6, Brewers 2
Right-hander Kyle Hendricks celebrated his selection as National League
rookie of the month with his sixth win in 10 big-league starts as the
Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers.
Hendricks (6-1) allowed two runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings to send
Milwaukee to their eighth successive loss as the Brewers fell three
games behind NL Central-leading St. Louis.

Braves 7, Phillies 4
Rookie catcher Christian Bethancourt, promoted from the minors on
Tuesday, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs as the Atlanta Braves
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Braves had managed only one run in their previous four games but
they broke out their slump to score their highest number of runs in 12
games.

Mets 4, Marlins 3
The New York Mets took the lead with two runs in the eighth inning and
then overcame a Giancarlo Stanton home run to defeat the Miami Marlins.

Blue Jays 7, Rays 4
First baseman Adam Lind went 4-for-5 and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the
Tampa Bay Rays in a game that was delayed for 30 minutes in the third
inning by an intense band of thunderstorms that partially blackened
several banks of lights.

Twins 11, White Sox 4
The Minnesota Twins notched 19 hits and secured a big victory over the
