“Guys have been around long enough to know that Chatham is going
to be a very strong football team,” Railer Head Coach Andy McDonald
said Thursday. “They run the same offense and very similar defense
year after year.” McDonald said the Chatham Glenwood Titans are
typically a “fundamentally sound” football team that always has some
“big strong kids.”
But Chatham and Lincoln are coming into this Friday’s game with
the same 0-1 record.
The Titans lost their opener last week to Central State Eight
newcomer Decatur McArthur by a field goal in overtime.
Lincoln lost at home to Springfield Southeast.
Senior defensive back Cameron Cook said Chatham’s loss will add fuel
to a team that he expects to make a statement.
“They’re going out to try and be aggressive,” Cook said as he
left the practice field Thursday.
The Railers’ showed flashes of promise last week, Coach McDonald
said his players were in the right place and the right time. But he
said they were not in the right position to make a play.
“We’ve got to get our pad level down,” McDonald added. “We’ve got
to be quick off the ball, take good angles, and get the pads
underneath theirs.”
Cook, one of the leaders on defense, said every Railer tackler knows
his job.

“They’re going to be a strong team. They’re going to come
through, and they’re just going to hit us,” Cook said. “And if we’re
hitting high, they’re just going to drag us down the field.”
McDonald hopes to drag a few Titans down the field Friday if Lincoln
can.
“We would like to be very evenly distributed as far as running
the ball and passing the ball,” McDonald said. “What’s working, and
what we’re being efficient with is what we’re probably going to
stick with.” The Railers travel to Chatham Glenwood; kickoff is 7
p.m. Friday night.
