run and Mike Fiers worked into the seventh as the Milwaukee Brewers'

victory in six starts since joining the Brewers' rotation Aug. 9.
With the win, Milwaukee (74-67) moved within three games of the
first-place Cardinals (77-64).

Phillies 8, Nationals 7 (11 innings)
Third baseman Maikel Franco's fielder's choice gave the Philadelphia
Phillies an improbable win over the Washington Nationals in 11
innings after rallying twice from a five-run deficit and from a
three-run hole in the ninth inning.
Philadelphia's fourth straight win over National League-East leading
Washington (79-60) was aided by a mistake from left fielder Bryce
Harper and center fielder Denard Span, who misplayed Phillies
(65-75) left fielder Domonic Brown's lazy fly ball to start the 11th
inning.
After catcher Carlos Ruiz sacrificed Brown to third, Franco chopped
a slow roller to first off Washington reliever Craig Stammen (4-5).
Tyler Moore's throw home was not in time to get Brown, giving Franco
- who had his first major league hit in the third inning - the
second RBI of his brief career.

Rays 3, Orioles 0
The Tampa Bay Rays broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning and
posted a win over the American League East-leading Baltimore
Orioles.

breaking out of a season-long slump, opened the eighth inning with a
single to left field off reliever Ryan Webb.
Ryan Hanigan had the big hit of the inning with a two-run single.
With the loss, Baltimore fell to 82-58 but remained 9 1/2 games
ahead in the division. Tampa Bay snapped three straight losses and
improved to 68-74.

City Royals opened a three-game series with a victory over the New
York Yankees.

efficiently until allowing Derek Jeter's one-out single in the
ninth. The only hits were a two-out double by left fielder Brett
Gardner in the fourth and a two-out single by third baseman Chase
Headley in the fifth.
Norichika Aoki drove in the game's only run with an RBI single in
the third for first-place Kansas City (78-61).

Mariners 7, Rangers 5
The Texas Rangers lost to the Seattle Mariners hours after manager
Ron Washington resigned for personal reasons.
The Rangers (53-88) own the worst record in baseball and have
dropped seven games in a row. The manager that led Texas to three
playoff trips, including two World Series, stepped down with 22
games left in the season.
Hisashi Iwakuma won his 14th game while Kendrys Morales homered
twice and had four RBIs for Seattle, (77-63) who is pushing for an
American League playoff spot.

Red Sox 9, Blue Jays 8 (10 innings)
The last-placed Red Sox tied the game with three runs in the eighth
inning, fell behind by two in the top of the 10th and then rallied

Boston left fielder Yoenis Cespedes got his fourth hit of the game,
a long single with the bases loaded, to cap the 10th-inning rally
against Casey Janssen (3-3).
Jose Bautista launched his 30th home run of the season in the loss
for the Blue Jays (72-68).

Indians 2, White Sox 1 (10 innings)
Pinch hitter David Murphy singled in the winning run in the bottom
of the 10th inning, giving the Cleveland Indians a win over the
Chicago White Sox.
The Indians (72-67) dodged a bullet in the top of the 10th inning
when the White Sox loaded the bases with one out. But right-hander
C.C. Lee (1-1) retired first baseman Dayan Viciedo on a foul out,
and third baseman Marcus Semien on a groundout to end that threat.

baseman, each went 4-for-5, matching their career highs in hits.

games.

Angels 7, Twins 6
Erick Aybar's sacrifice fly with one out in the 10th inning lifted the
Los Angeles Angels to a win over the Minnesota Twins.
With the bases loaded and the game tied at 6-6, Aybar, the Angels'
shortstop, lifted an off-speed pitch from Twins right-hander Jared
Burton just deep enough into right field to score Angels right fielder
Kole Calhoun from third base.

Giants 8, Tigers 2
Jake Peavy lasted six innings and did not give up an earned run despite
a long rain delay to lead the San Francisco Giants to a victory over the
Detroit Tigers.
Peavy, who is 4-4 since being acquired from Boston on July 26, allowed
two unearned runs and did not walk a batter while Pablo Sandoval hit a
solo home run and drove in two runs for the Giants (77-64).
Tigers starter Rick Porcello (15-10) gave up six runs -- five earned --
and 10 hits in three innings as Detroit (77-64) fell two games behind
Kansas City in the American League Central.

Angeles a 2-0 lead as the first-place Dodgers beat Arizona.

finish the contest and the Dodgers (79-62) stayed two games ahead of San
Francisco in the National League West.

Astros 4, Athletics 3
Chris Carter drove in Houston's final three runs to pull them out of a
3-1 deficit and defeat the Oakland Athletics.

blast in the sixth that put the Astros on top for goo.
Brett Oberholtzer tossed 6 1/3 innings before his bullpen kept the
Athletics quiet late.
Oakland (79-61) fell six games behind the first-place Los Angeles Angels
in the American League West.
