TV: Thursday and Friday, 1-6 p.m. EDT on the Golf Channel;
Saturday, noon-2:30 p.m. EDT on the Golf Channel and 2:30-6 p.m. EDT
on NBC; Sunday, noon-1:30 p.m. EDT on the Golf Channel and 1:30-6
p.m. EDT on NBC.
LAST YEAR: Henrik Stenson of Sweden, playing in the finale at East
Lake for the first time, led virtually wire to wire by reeling off
scores of 64-66-69-68. He took the title, finishing three strokes
ahead of veteran Steve Stricker and rookie Jordan Spieth. Stenson,
who also claimed the FedEx Cup, never seemed to be in trouble. He
claimed his second victory of the PGA Tour playoffs, as he won the
Deutsche Bank Championship to take charge of the standings. He
finished in the top three in five of his last seven tournaments of
the season on the PGA Tour and went on to become the first player to
capture the FedEx Cup and the season-long Race to Dubai on the
European Tour, also winning the finale on the other side of the
Atlantic, the World Tour Championship-Dubai.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Pacific Links Hawaii Championship at Kapolei Golf
Club in Kapolei, Hawaii, Sept. 19-21.
TV: Friday and Saturday, 7:30-10:30 p.m. EDT, and Sunday, 8-11 p.m.
EDT, on the Golf Channel each day.
LAST YEAR: Mark Wiebe holed an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole
of regulation to get into a playoff with Corey Pavin, then sank a
20-foot par putt on the second extra hole to claim his fifth victory
on the Champions Tour after winning twice on the PGA Tour. Wiebe,
who captured the Senior British Open earlier in the season, took the
lead to the final round with scores of 64-69, but he had to rally
after struggling a bit in a closing even-par 72. Pavin, who posted
scores of 69-69-68, took the lead with two birdies on the back nine
of his bogey-free final round, but he missed a 10-foot par putt that
would have prolonged the playoff.
LPGA TOUR: The Evian Championship at Evian Masters Golf Club in
Evian-les-Bains, France, Thursday through Sunday.
[to top of second column] |
TV: Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. EDT on the Golf Channel;
Saturday, 6:30-11:30 a.m. EDT on the Golf Channel; Sunday, 8:30-noon EDT
on the Golf Channel and noon-1:30 p.m. on NBC.
LAST YEAR: Suzann Pettersen of Norway claimed the second major title of
her career by shooting 3-under-par 68 in the final round to beat
16-year-old Lydia Ko of New Zealand by two strokes. Pettersen, whose
only other major title came in the 2007 McDonald's LPGA Championship,
won for the second straight start, having captured the Safeway
Championship a few weeks earlier. The Evian, long considered a top
tournament but played as an LPGA Tour major for the first time, was
shortened to 54 holes after heavy rain washed out the first round. Ko
closed with a 70 and Lexi Thompson shot 68 to finish four shots back in
third after another morning downpour delayed the final round by 90
minutes.
