Millikin jumped out to a 24-0 advantage after one quarter and
went to the locker room at halftime up 45-10.
Quarterback Nick Pippin (Bourbonnais, Bradley Bourbonnais H.S.) had
a solid game for the Big Blue passing 18-28 for 247 yards with three
touchdowns. Pippin rushed for 47 yards and one touchdown.
Millikin top receiver was Taylor Sanders (Marshall, H.S.) with seven
catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Millikin’s three back rushing attack was effective with Justin
Brooks (Bloomington, H.S.) gaining 77 yards and one score on four
carries. Freshman Isaiah Townsend (Indianapolis, Ind., Lawrence
Central H.S.) had 62 yards on nine carries with one touchdown.
Jacoby Sims (Hoffman Estates, Conant H.S.) had 23 yards on eight
carries and one score.
On Millikin’s second drive, a 60 yard run by Brooks set up a one
yard run by Townsend.
On the ensuing kickoff freshman Jalen Easler (Indianapolis, Ind.,
Lawrence Central H.S.) on the return by Greenville’s Jarrid
Williams. Freshman Quintaz Wright (Indianapolis, Ind., Lawrence
Central H.S.) scooped up the loose ball and raced to the end zone to
make it 17-0 Millikin.
Millikin closed out the first quarter on a 63 yard touchdown pass
from Pippin to Brady Cufaude (Pekin, H.S.).
The Big Blue scored three more times in the second quarter. Pippin
connected with Sanders on a 33 yard pass play to put Millikin up
31-3. Sims added a four yard touchdown run and Pippin scored on a 28
yard pass.
Pippin connected with Sanders again in the third quarter on a 28
yard pass.
Millikin scored twice in the fourth quarter with freshman Brendan
Moore (St. Louis, Mo, Mehlville H.S.) hitting Chase Robbins (Normal,
Normal Community H.S.) on a 45 yard touchdown pass and Mike Blakely
(St. Louis, Mo., Hazelwood West) scoring on a 75 yard punt return.
Travis Goveia (Downs, Tri-Valley H.S.) had a big day for the
Millikin defense with 7.5 tackles including six tackles for a loss.
Jowonis Edwards (Normal, Normal Community H.S.) had 8.5 tackles to
lead the Big Blue defenders.
Millikin will play at Trine University in Angola Indiana on
September 13 at 1 p.m. ET. The game is part of the College
Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Challenge.
Millikin Volleyball Rolls On
The #25 ranked Millikin volleyball team went 3-1 at the Transylvania
University Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky on September 5-6.
On Friday, the Big Blue faced 3-1 Bethany in the opener and cruised
to an 3-0 victory
(25-19, 25-19, 25-19). Audrey Krajec (West Salem, Edwards County H.S.)
led the way with 13 kills. Sara Travis (Schaumburg, H.S.) had 11
kills and Jade Becker (Mt. Zion, H.S.) had 10 kills and a .562
hitting percentage. Erin Syversen (Pewaukee, Wis., Waukesha West H.S.)
had a team high 14 digs. Emily Mihalkanin (Willowbrook, Hinsdale
South H.S.) had 32 set assists.
The Big Blue defeated Convenant 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-22). Krajec
had a team high 18 kills and 16 digs to go along with two service
aces.
On Saturday, Millikin used a thrilling comeback to win its match
over Berry College 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 31-29, 25-16 and 16-14).
Millikin lost the first two sets and down to match point in the
third set before they rallied to win to stay alive. Millikin then
won the next two sets to take the match. Krajec had 25 kills, seven
digs and two service aces. Becker had 17 kills with a .600 hitting
percentage. Syversen had 13 kills. Christina Capuani (Addison,
Addison Trail H.S.) had a team high 20 digs and Jenna Hilgers (Mason
City, Illini Central H.S.) led the way with assists with 42.
Millikin lost its first match of the season falling to #10 Juniata
3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17). Krajec had 15 kills and Syversen
added 13. Hilgers had 48 assists. Millikin had trouble serving in
the match committing 13 service errors.
Millikin will play at the DePauw University Tournament on Sept.
12-13.

Big Blue Men Tie
Millikin Men's Soccer settled for a double overtime tie in their
nonconference matchup against the Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology on September 6 at the Millikin University Soccer Fields.
The Big Blue got on the board right away in the first period when
Kellin Daniel (Waterloo, H.S.) scored his first goal of the season
on a pass made by Nick Schaefer (Cherry Valley, Boylan Catholic H.S.).
Millikin is now 1-1-1 on the season. Next game up for the men will
be against Webster University Wednesday, September 10 at 8 p.m. in
St. Louis, Missouri.
Millikin Women’s Soccer Update
The Millikin women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 tie in double
overtime against Earlham College on September 7 at the Millikin
Soccer Field in Decatur, Illinois.
Millikin scored in the 11th minute on a goal by Jenna Eaker
(Schaumburg, H.S.) off an assist from Jenny Zima (Greenfield, Wis.,
PIUS XI H.S.).
Anna Benvenuto (West Allis, Wis., PIUS XI H.S.) had nine saves in
goal for the Big Blue.
Millikin lost to Rose-Hulman 1-0 on September 6. Benvenuto was
strong is goal having nine saves on the day and only giving up the
one goal.
Millikin is now 1-2-1 while Earlham goes to 2-1-1.
The Big Blue will play at Webster University in St. Louis on
Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
Millikin Women’s Tennis Now 3-0
The Millikin women’s tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season
sweeping Fontbonne University 9-0 in St. Louis, Missouri on
September 7.
Millikin won all six singles matches 6-0, 6-0 with Paige Bequette
(Edwardsville, H.S.), Molly Angell (Ottawa, Ottawa Township H.S.),
Elizabeth Breitbach (Peoria, Notre Dame H.S.), Melissa Donovan
(Antioch, H.S.), Amber Morgan (Taylorville, H.S.) and Meagan Booth
(West Dundee, Jacobs H.S.) all picking up wins.
The Big Blue won each doubles match 8-0 with Bequette and Angell win
at number one doubles. Aubrie Sabin (Rockford, Rock Valley C.C.) and
Donovan winning at number two and Breitbach and Morgan winning in
the number three doubles match.
Millikin will play at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin on
September 12.
Big Blue Finish Well At Spartan Classic
Millikin men’s and women’s Cross Country teams were at the Spartan
Classic on September 5 at Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois.
The Big Blue women finished fourth overall in their six kilometer
race. Jamie Michel (Newton, H.S.) was the top runner finishing 14th
with a time of 24:33.8
The Millikin men’s team finished eighth overall in their eight
kilometer race. The Big Blue’s Timee McElroy (Mt. Zion, H.S.)
finished 42nd with a time of 28:44.8.
