Sept 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Bob
Suter, a defenseman on the 1980 Miracle on Ice team that stunningly won
the Olympic gold medal in hockey, died of an apparent heart attack on
Tuesday at age 57 in Madison, Wis.

Suter played in all seven games during the U.S. team's improbable
run to the gold and in its shocking victory over the then-Soviet
Union.

The Washington Capitals re-signed defenseman Cameron Schilling to a
one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms were not disclosed,
although the deal is valued at $625,000 at the NHL level and
$110,000 at the AHL level, according to the Washington Post.
- - Scott Stevens is leaving his job as an assistant coach with the New
Jersey Devils after two years, the team announced Tuesday.
The 50-year-old Stevens will be replaced by Tommy Albelin, who also
is a former Devils player. Albelin was serving as an assistant coach
for Albany in the American Hockey League.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed left winger Spencer Abbott to a
one-year contract on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not
released by the team.
The 26-year-old Abbott spent the majority of last season with the
Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League, posting 17 goals and
