Pirates 6, Phillies 3
Russell Martin homered and drove in three runs on as the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the Philadelphia Phillies.
Center fielder Andrew McCutchen added an inside-the-park homer for
Pittsburgh, which won for the fifth time in six games.
The Pirates (76-69) lead the race for the National League's second
wild-card berth.
Martin and McCutchen were among six players with two hits for
Pittsburgh, which had 13 hits in all. Left fielder Starling Marte
went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.

Giants 5, Diamondbacks 0
Left fielder Gregor Blanco and pinch-hitter Matt Duffy had RBI
doubles in a four-run seventh inning, lifting the San Francisco
Giants to a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The win allowed the Giants (80-65) to keep pace with the Los Angeles
Dodgers atop the National League West. The Dodgers (83-63) beat the
San Diego Padres 4-0 to retain a 2 1/2 game lead over the
second-place Giants.

Braves 6, Nationals 2
Aaron Harang gave up one unearned run in seven innings and Justin
Upton drove in three runs with two late hits as the Atlanta Braves
beat the Washington Nationals to salvage the finale of the
three-game series between the National League East opponents.
The first-place Nationals (82-62) are still eight games ahead of the
second-place Braves (75-71), who are 10-6 against Washington this
year.
Atlanta had lost seven of its previous 10 games before the series
finale.

Astros 5, Mariners 2
Nick Tropeano earned a win in his major league debut, leading
Houston to a victory over Seattle.
Tropeano (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in
five-plus innings.
Houston second baseman Jose Altuve went 2-for-5 with an RBI. He
recorded his 200th hit of the season with a seventh-inning single.
Seattle fell to 79-66 and trails Oakland by two games for the first
wild card and remains a half-game behind the Tigers for the final
playoff position.

Brewers 4, Marlins 1
Wily Peralta struck out five and Matt Clark hit his first big league
home run as the Milwaukee Brewers snapped a four-game losing streak
with a victory over the Miami Marlins.
Peralta (16-10) worked into the seventh inning and scattered five
hits and three walks. His only earned run came when Marlins center
fielder Marcell Ozuna hit a solo home run in the seventh -- his
third homer in as many games.
The Brewers had lost 13 of their last 14 game to fall from first to
third place in the National League Central, six games behind the St.
Louis Cardinals and 1 1/2 behind Pittsburgh and Atlanta, which were
tied for the second NL wild-card spot.

Dodgers 4, Padres 0
Dan Haren threw seven shutout innings, and Carl Crawford had a
season-high four hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San
Diego Padres.
Haren, who limited San Diego to four hits and a walk while striking
out five, captured his third win in four starts and helped the
Dodgers (83-63) take two of three from the Padres. San Diego (67-78)
lost for the seventh time in eight games.
Crawford, the Dodgers' left fielder, went 4-for-4 with three doubles
and two RBIs.

Orioles 10, Red Sox 6
Wei-Yin Chen flirted with perfection and the Baltimore Orioles moved
a step closer to clinching their first American League East title
with a victory of the Boston Red Sox.
The Orioles (86-59) completed a sweep of the three-game series and
reduced their Magic Number for clinching the division to eight.
Chen, winning his 15th game of the season, retired the first 16
hitters and ended up allowing one run in seven innings. Caleb
Johnson had three RBIs for Baltimore.

Royals 3, Tigers 0
James Shields allowed a game-opening single then retired the next 18
batters he faced as the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers
to reclaim a one-game lead in the American League Central Division.
The right-handed Shields combined with right-handed relievers Kelvin
Herreo and Wade Davis throw a two-hitter. Shields (14-7) walked just
one and struck out eight.
Kelvin Herrera pitched the eighth and Davis earned his third save.

Reds 4, Cardinals 2
Ryan Ludwick homered and Alfredo Simon pitched seven strong innings
while also doubling twice, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a victory
over the first-place St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cardinals (80-66) now lead the National League Central by four
games over the second-place Pittsburgh Pirates.
After losing six straight to the Cardinals, Cincinnati (69-77) has
defeated them on consecutive nights. Reds closer Aroldis Chapman
posted his 32nd save.

Mets 2, Rockies 0
Rafael Montero earned his first Major League win when the rookie
right-hander tossed 5 1/3 strong innings and combined with four
relievers on a four-hitter as the New York Mets beat the Colorado
Rockies.
The shutout was the second in a row for the Mets, who swept the
three-game series from the Rockies and have won seven of their last
eight to improve to 71-75.

White Sox 2, Athletics 1
Avisail Garcia spoiled a great start by Jeff Samardzija and the
Chicago White Sox came from behind late to hand the Oakland
Athletics another stinging defeat.
After third baseman Conor Gillaspie was intentionally walked to load
the bases in the eighth inning, Garcia gave the White Sox their
first lead of the game, 2-1, by lining a two out single to center
field off right-handed reliever Luke Gregerson.
The Athletics (81-64) dropped a game they led late for the second
time in the series' first three games.

Blue Jays 11, Cubs 1
Drew Hutchison pitched into the seventh inning and equaled his
career high with 10 strikeouts as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the
Chicago Cubs to complete a sweep of the three-game series.
The right-hander allowed four hits, one walk and one run in 6 1/3
innings.
It was the sixth straight loss by the Cubs (64-82) and the fourth
win in a row for the Blue Jays (76-69).

Yankees 8, Rays 5
Brian McCann drove in three runs as the New York Yankees rallied
from a four-run deficit and defeated the Tampa Bay Rays.
Left fielder Chris Young hit the tying home run and first baseman
Mark Teixeira delivered the go-ahead triple as the Yankees rallied
from a four-run deficit for the first time since Aug. 20, 2013,
against the Toronto Blue Jays.
New York improved to 74-69 while the Rays fell to 70-76.

Angels 8, Rangers 1
The Los Angeles Angels won their seventh straight game and handed
the Texas Rangers their ninth loss in the last 10 games in a
victory.
The Rangers fell 36 games behind the American League West-leading
Angels.
An early lead, stellar pitching from right-hander Matt Shoemaker
(15-4) and the bullpen combined for the Angels' 12th win over Texas
in 2014. Los Angeles leads the season series 12-3. (Editing by
