Pinch-hitter Matt Duffy drove in a run and scored another while
Angel Pagan and Travis Ishikawa each added an RBI for the wild
card-leading Giants, who remained 2 1/2 games behind the first-place
Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Jean Machi (7-1)
picked up the win in relief of Ryan Vogelsong, who allowed two hits
and five walks over 6 2/3 scoreless frames.
Jake Lamb recorded both hits for the Diamondbacks, who have lost
five in a row and fell to 2-7 on their 10-game road trip. Oliver
Perez (3-4) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on two hits
and a walk in one-third of an inning after starter Josh Collmenter
scattered three hits over six scoreless frames.
Arizona loaded the bases with two out in the second inning before
Collmenter ended the threat by grounding out. The Diamondbacks got a
runner to third with two down in the fourth, but Vogelsong induced
an inning-ending groundout by Alfredo Marte.
San Francisco was unable to get a man past second base against
Collmenter but accomplished the feat quickly versus Perez. Hunter
Pence ignited a four-run rally by drawing a leadoff walk in the
seventh and scored on Blanco's double to snap the scoreless tie.
