The Engineering Explorer Post 6 will host its annual “First
Nighter” on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the IDOT
Central Office, 2300 South Dirksen Parkway, in Springfield. This is
an open-house format to explain the program to both students and
parents.
The program has been successful in helping students continue their
pursuit in engineering to the college level and as practicing
engineers. The past few years, the Post has been able to offer
scholarship opportunities to students for college. Currently, the
Post has Explorers from throughout central Illinois, including
Athens, Auburn, Beardstown, Carlinville, Chatham, Jacksonville,
Pleasant Plains, Rochester, Springfield and Taylorville.

Exploring is part of Learning for Life’s career education
program for young men and women, starting with those who are at
least 14 years old and have completed the eighth grade, through
the age of 20. The purpose of this program is to give students
practical “hands on” experience in the engineering field and an
opportunity to spend time with and be mentored by practicing
engineers and technicians.
