[September 17, 2014]  Sept 16 (The Sports Xchange) - One of the biggest Vikings fans in the state of Minnesota, Gov. Mark Dayton, called for the franchise to suspend running back Adrian Peterson.

"Whipping a child to the extent of visible wounds, as has been alleged, should not be tolerated in our state," Dayton said in a statement.

"Therefore, I believe the team should suspend Mr. Peterson, until the accusations of child abuse have been resolved by the criminal justice system."

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will appeal his indefinite suspension but reportedly is asking for commissioner Roger Goodell to recuse himself from the review.

Goodell, who said Rice's version of events was "ambiguous" when the parties met prior to an initial suspension, turned over the New Orleans Saints bounty-related suspensions to former commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said commissioner Roger Goodell's contributions to the NFL are overwhelmingly positive and encourages fans to judge him on balance, not just his most recent decision.

Goodell, who admitted he whiffed when the NFL initially suspended running back Ray Rice two games for knocking out his then-fiancee in a casino elevator in February, has been in the public crosshairs since the league changed course and suspended Rice indefinitely last week.

CBS and Rihanna are splitting up. The singer took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to protest the network pulling her song from its Thursday night broadcast of a game between the Baltimore Ravens played the Pittsburgh Steelers. After she tweeted, "CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO! F--- you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this," the network responded by yanking the song permanently from Thursday night telecasts. CBS had planned to reintroduce the song this week for the rest of the season.

A third-round pick by the San Diego Chargers in 2011, Brown has played in 30 career games, including 16 starts, and has 60 receptions for 801 yards. However, he suffered a calf injury during training camp and was waived with an injury settlement.
