[September 19, 2014]  Sept 18 (The Sports Xchange) - Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will not be available at the start of training camp, but there is no long-term concern for either Pittsburgh Penguins star.

General manager Jim Rutherford said the precautionary move is to allow the players to overcome minor injuries incurred preparing for camp.

Top prospect Anthony Mantha, a first-round pick in the 2013 draft, will not debut for the Detroit Red Wings any time soon.

His greatly anticipated arrival in Detroit must wait after the 2013 Canadian junior player of the year suffered a broken leg in a rookie tournament in Traverse City, Mich.

Columbus right wing Nathan Horton will be out of action indefinitely with a back injury that has bothered the 29-year-old for most of the summer.

The Blue Jackets are not expecting him to participate in training camp, and the Columbus Dispatch said Horton cold miss the first part of the season.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen said he is not retiring, but the chances of playing again appeared "really slim."

Many thought the 39-year-old Timonen was going to retire during Thursday's news conference because of a blood clots in his lungs and right leg. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
