Lady Wolverines open season with a 2-0 record

[September 27, 2014]  LINCOLN - This week marked the season opener for the West Lincoln Broadwell Lady Worlverines as they faced off with a new challenger; Normal Calvary.

The 7th-grade team started the night off with a bang by defeating Normal Calvary 40-8. Leah Schneider led all scorers with 15 points as Madison Orebaugh contributed with nine and Makayla Anderson with five, Asia Sales, Madelyn Koehler and Emily Paulus also helped the offensive attack with four points a piece. Paulus and Orebaugh worked together to pull down five boards a piece. Leah Schneider and Karissa Bowman worked tough on defense and grabbed five steals.

In between the 7th and 8th-grade games the new third place IESA state banner was unveiled in the WLB gymnasium. All the players and managers from last years state team were honored for their contribution to the Lady Wolverine Basketball Program.



The 8th-grade game began immediately after the ceremony. The Lady Wolverines kept their offensive and defensive attack going as they defeated Normal Calvary by a score of 57-10. Leah Schneider led all scorers with 20 points as Emma Konczyk added 14 and Madelyn Koehler 9. Paige Langley used her jumping ability to pull down nine rebounds as Konczyk and Schneider pulled down 7. Koehler led the defensive attack with 5 steals.

The 2nd game for the Lady Wolverines was just as explosive against a Springfield Calvary team. The 7th grade Lady Wolverines defeated Springfield Calvary by a score of 51-7. Leah Schneider led all scorers with 17 as Asia Sales put in 10 and Makayla Anderson 6. Madison Orebaugh and Brooke Montcalm turned the heat on with their defense as Orebaugh had eight steals and Montcalm 6.

The 8th-grade game followed with the Lady Wolverines keeping up their attack. The 8th-grade team won by a score of 78-7. The Wolverines had a balanced offensive attack as Emma Konczyk led with 19, Schneider added 17, Madelyn Koehler put in 12, Madison Orebaugh and Paige Langley both contributed with 11. Konczyk also led the defensive attack with 8 steals as Madison Orebaugh and Karissa Bowman had 5. Paige Langley had another impressive night on the boards as she pulled down 8.

The Lady Wolverines will be back in action on Monday night competing in the Carrol Catholic Tournament.
