St. Louis second baseman Kolten Wong drove in the only run of the
game on a groundout in the sixth inning as the Cardinals celebrated
their National League Central title with a victory over the Arizona
Diamondbacks on the final day of the regular season.
St. Louis (90-72) made the playoffs for the fourth consecutive
season, their third in as many years under manager Mike Matheny.
They have won eight division titles and split four World Series
appearances since 2000, last winning the World Series in 2011 in
Tony La Russa's last season as manager.

Reds 4, Pirates 1
Kristopher Negron went 3-for-4 including a two-run homer, helping
Johnny Cueto become the franchise's first 20-game winner in 26
years, as the Cincinnati Reds ended the Pittsburgh Pirates' hopes of
winning the NL Central.
Neil Walker homered for Pittsburgh (88-74,) who face the San
Francisco Giants on Wednesday in the NL wild-card game.

Buster Posey slugged a two-run home run as the San Francisco Giants
beat the San Diego Padres in their final tune-up for their NL
wild-card game against Pittsburgh.

Yankees 9, Red Sox 5
Derek Jeter delivered an RBI single in the final at-bat of his
illustrious 20-year career as the New York Yankees beat the Boston
Red Sox.
The 40-year-old Yankees' captain went 1-for-2 in his last game
before being removed for a pinch runner in the third inning after
driving in New York's third run with a high infield chopper.
The shortstop, who opted to serve as the designated hitter for his
final two games in Boston, finished the season batting .256 with
four homers and 50 RBIs.

Nationals 1, Marlins 0
Jordan Zimmermann, in a dazzling tuneup for a post-season start,
threw a no-hitter as the NL East champion Washington Nationals beat
the Miami Marlins.
He retired center fielder Christian Yelich for the final out of the
game on a diving catch in left field by rookie Stephen Souza, Jr.
Zimmermann (14-5) retired the first 14 batters before Justin Bour,
the first baseman, drew a two-out walk in the fifth. Zimmermann then
retired catcher J.T. Realmuto on a liner to short -- the third line
drive out of the inning.

Tigers 3, Twins 0
A dominant David Price scattered four hits over 7-1/3 shutout
innings for a victory over the Minnesota Twins that gave the Detroit
Tigers their fourth American League Central Division championship in
a row.
Price, obtained in a July 31 trade with Tampa Bay, was removed in
favor of right-hander Joba Chamberlain after getting leadoff man
shortstop Danny Santana to fly out to center to open the eighth.

Royals 6, White Sox 4
The Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox, but the victory
was rendered moot as they fell short of winning the AL Central.
Shortstop Alcides Escobar went 2-for-3 and extended his hitting
streak to nine games for Kansas City (89-73). The Royals will play a
wild-card game against Oakland on Tuesday.

A's 4, Rangers 0
Right-hander Sonny Gray pitched a shutout and the Oakland Athletics
beat the Texas Rangers to clinch the AL's second wild-card spot.
Right fielder Josh Reddick and first baseman Stephen Vogt had
run-scoring hits in the second for Oakland, which added two runs in
the ninth.

Mariners 4, Angels 1
Seattle beat the Los Angeles Angels, but the final four innings were
rendered relatively meaniningless after the Mariners were eliminated
from AL wild-card contention due to Oakland's victory over Texas.
Felix Hernandez (15-6) pitched 5-1/3 innings, allowing just one hit
as the Mariners finished the season at 87-75, their best record
since 2007.

Dodgers 10, Rockies 5
Matt Kemp, Adrian Gonzalez and Roger Bernadina homered, leading the
playoff-bound Los Angeles Dodgers to victory over the Colorado
Rockies.
The Dodgers (94-68) will take a five-game winning streak into the
playoffs.

Cubs 5, Brewers 2
Anthony Rizzo hit his 32nd home run of the season and the Chicago
Cubs' collection of youngsters provided reason for optimism next
year, wrapping up the season with a victory over the Milwaukee
Brewers.
Since missing 18 games with a lower back strain to open September,
Rizzo has gone 15-for-38 (.394) with two home runs and seven RBIs.

Orioles 1, Blue Jays 0
Jonathan Schoop homered and Miguel Gonzalez pitched five innings as
the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays.
Gonzalez (10-9) allowed five hits and struck out two as he snapped a
two-game losing streak of his own and the Orioles ended their
three-game string of losses.

Indians 7, Rays 2
David Murphy and Zach Walters homered and left-hander T.J. House
pitched five solid innings to lead the Cleveland Indians to a win
over the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Indians finished the season in third place of the AL Central
with a record of 85-77. Tampa Bay, 77-85, finished fourth in the AL
East.

Mets 8, Astros 3
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve locked up the American
League batting championship but the New York Mets won after Lucas
Duda collected four RBIs.
Altuve, who began the day with a .003 lead over Detroit designated
hitter Victor Martinez, was originally held out of the lineup.
But shortly after 12:30 p.m., the Astros unveiled a new lineup with
Altuve -- who made it clear to reporters beforehand that he was not
happy to be benched -- batting second.

Braves 2, Phillies 1
In the final game of seasons to forget for both teams, the Atlanta
Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies.
Atlanta (79-83) sat in first place of the NL East on July 18, but
staggered to the finish line, going a major-league-worst 7-18 in
September to complete their first losing season since 2008.
