NHL roundup: Avs sign McLeod, Stuart to extensions

 The Colorado Avalanche on Monday signed forward Cody McLeod to a three-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season and defenseman Brad Stuart to a two-year extension through 2016-17.

Financial terms were not released for the contracts but TSN reported Stuart's extension is worth $7.2 million, for a $3.6 million salary-cap charge. ESPN.com reported the total value of McLeod's deal is $4 million, for a $1.33 million annual cap charge.

Stuart and McLeod are entering the final season of their current contracts and would have been unrestricted free agents after the 2014-15 season. Their new contracts begin next season.

McLeod, 30, has spent his entire career with the Avalanche after signing as a free agent on July 6, 2006.

Stuart, 34, is entering his first season with Colorado after being acquired from San Jose on July 1.

--The Dallas Stars signed forward Cody Eakin to a two-year contract, the team announced Monday.

The deal is worth $3.8 million, according to the Dallas Morning News.



Eakin, 22, had 16 goals and 35 points in 81 regular-season contests last season. In last season's playoffs, he had two goals and three assists in six games.

---The Boston Bruins signed defenseman Torey Krug and forward Reilly Smith to one-year, $1.4 million contracts.

Krug and Smith had been entry-level free agents.

Krug, 23, was second among Bruins defensemen last season with 14 goals and tied for first with captain Zdeno Chara with 40 points. Smith, acquired by the Bruins as part of the Tyler Seguin trade with the Dallas Stars in July 2013, had 20 goals and 51 points.

--The New York Islanders and forward Michael Dal Colle agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Dal Colle, 18, was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft after scoring 95 points in 67 games with the Oshawa Generals last season.

---The Minnesota Wild reduced their training camp roster to 32 players.

The team assigned forward Brett Bulmer, defenseman Guillaume Gelinas and forward Tyler Graovac to Iowa of the American Hockey League. The Wild also placed defensemen Jonathon Blum and Justin Falk, and forward Joel Rechlicz on waivers. In addition, Minnesota assigned goalie Brandon Whitney to Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

---The Chicago Blackhawks reduced their roster to 30 with the reassignment of six players.

The team assigned forwards Joakim Nordstrom, Dennis Rasmussen and Garret Ross, defensemen Adam Clendening and Klas Dahlbeck and goaltender Scott Darling to Rockford of the American Hockey League.
