The Minnesota Twins fired manager Ron Gardenhire on Monday after 13 seasons.

The Twins finished 70-92 this year, their fourth consecutive season of 90-plus losses.

The move ends the second-longest active tenure managing the same team in the major leagues behind Mike Scioscia, who has been manger of the Los Angeles Angels since 2000.

Gardenhire guided the Twins to their first of six American League Central division titles in 2002 in his first year. His teams only got out of the first round of the postseason once, in 2002. The Twins went 2-15 in their past five playoff trips.

Gardenhire was the AL Manager of the Year in 2010, the last time the Twins made the playoffs and had a winning record. He was 1,068-1,039 (.507) in the 13 seasons.

---A.J. Hinch is expected to be named the Houston Astros next manager, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The team has called an evening news conference to make an announcement. Hinch will replace Bo Porter, who was fired on Sept. 1.

Hinch managed the Arizona Diamondbacks to an 89-123 record from 2009-2010.

Most recently, he has been a vice president of scouting for the San Diego Padres. Hinch played catcher for the A's, Royals, Tigers and Phillies.

--It remains unclear whether Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will be back next season.

Brewers owner Mark Attanaaio has said general manager Doug Melvin will be back, but has not said anything definitive regarding Roenicke.
