Detroit Red Wings forward Erik Cole will miss the rest of the season,
including the playoffs, and his hockey future is in doubt due to a
spinal contusion.

"Doctors feel right now there's just a little bit too much risk for
me to be playing," Cole said Wednesday, according to the Detroit
Free Press. "I was looking forward to being a part of the playoff
run here and helping this team make a run to the (Stanley) Cup, and
I'm not going to be able to do that."

Forward Max Pacioretty, the Montreal Canadiens' leading scorer, will
sit out the final two games of the season with an upper-body injury,
coach Michel Therrien said.
Pacioretty hit the boards hard after being checked by Florida
Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov on Sunday in the first period of
the Canadiens' 4-1 win in Florida.

The playoff-bound Vancouver Canucks signed forward Derek Dorsett and
defenseman Luca Sbisa to multiyear contract extensions.
Dorsett's four-year deal is worth $10.6 million and Sbisa received a
three-year, $10.8 million contract, according to reports.

The Arizona Coyotes recalled forward Henrik Samuelsson on an
emergency basis from Portland of the American Hockey League.
Samuelsson, 21, has played in two games for the Coyotes this season
and in 65 games for Portland.

The Edmonton Oilers brought up goaltender Laurent Brossoit and
winger Curtis Hamilton on emergency recalls from Oklahoma City of
the American Hockey League and loaned goaltender Richard Bachman to
the Barons.

Center Connor McDavid of the Ontario Hockey League's Erie Otters has
been named the top 2015 draft-eligible skater from North America by
the NHL Central Scouting Bureau.
McDavid edged Boston University freshman Jack Eichel for the honor.

The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned defenseman Slater Koekkoek to the
Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.
Koekkoek, 21, has skated in three games with the Lightning this
season, posting two penalty minutes and six shots on goal. He made
his NHL debut on March 31.

The San Jose Sharks reassigned forward Barclay Goodrow to their
American Hockey League affiliate in Worcester, Mass.
Goodrow made his NHL debut on Oct. 30 and has 12 points (eight
assists) and 35 penalty minutes in 60 games with San Jose this
