[April 09, 2015]  LINCOLN - Former Lincoln College men’s basketball coach Woodrow “Jason” Jones was one of seven people killed in a plane crash in Bloomington, Ill., on Tuesday. The twin-engine C4114A Cessna Chancellor crashed just north of the Central Illinois Regional Airport shortly after midnight. Jones was part of a group flying back from Indianapolis, Ind., after the NCAA Basketball Championship game.

Jones was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Lincoln College in the early 1990’s under head coach Joe O’Brien. Jones was also a Residence Hall Counselor in Carroll Hall on campus at Lincoln College. After playing basketball and baseball and graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University, Jones began his brief coaching career for the Lynx at Lincoln College. After a two year stint as an assistant for O’Brien, Jones left the coaching ranks and began a career in the business world with State Farm as a claims representative.

The Athletic Director at the time was Allen Pickering and he remembers Jones while at Lincoln College. “Jason brought a good reputation and a local flavor being from Lincoln. He was a pleasure to be around.”

At the time of his death, Jones was a Wells Fargo Advisor in Bloomington, Ill. He is survived by his wife, Lyndsey, and two children Jack (10) and Kate (8).
