Islanders 3, Penguins 1
John Tavares' goal early in the third period lifted the New York
Islanders to a victory over the Penguins as Pittsburgh again
failed to lock down a playoff berth.
The Penguins (43-26-12) need to beat the Buffalo Sabres, who
have the worst record in the NHL, on Saturday or will miss the
playoffs for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
Despite being 4-7-2 in their last 13 games, the Islanders
(47-28-6) have already clinched a playoff spot.
The Islanders are now assured of finishing third in the
Metropolitan Division and will face the Washington Capitals in a
first-round series in the Eastern Conference.

Blue Jackets 4, Sabres 2
Right winger Cam Atkinson scored off a long rebound midway
through the third period to break a tie and help Columbus to a
win over Buffalo.
Atkinson's goal, at 10:35 of the third, and an empty-net goal by
center Boone Jenner in the final minute, extended the Blue
Jackets' point streak to a franchise-record-tying 12 games
(11-0-1).
The Blue Jackets have not lost in regulation since March 15.
