The Kansas City Royals got 6-1/3 innings from starting pitcher Danny
Duffy and took advantage of several defensive miscues by the
Minnesota Twins in a lopsided win that spoiled Minnesota's home
opener.
The victory moved the Royals to 7-0 this season, the second-best
start in franchise history.

Brewers 5, Cardinals 4
Carlos Gomez collected a pair of hits and scored two runs as the
Brewers spoiled the Cards' home opener.
Right-hander Matt Garza picked up the win despite allowing six hits
and five walks over 5-2/3 innings.

Rookie Eddie Butler pitched 5-1/3 shutout innings despite allowing
12 runners as Colorado ruined San Francisco's banner-raising day.
Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki drove in his fifth run of the season with
a fourth-inning single before Colorado added an unearned run in the
seventh.

Yankees 6, Orioles 5
Stephen Drew hit a pinch-hit grand slam off right-hander Tommy
Hunter in the seventh inning, helping the Yankees rally for a
victory.
Hunter came on in the seventh after left-hander Wei-Yin Chen exited
with a 4-2 lead.
Baltimore built the advantage on a two-run homer from center fielder
Adam Jones off Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda with two outs in
the sixth.

Rays 2, Blue Jays 1
Tampa Bay right-hander Jake Odorizzi allowed two hits over eight
innings to help the Rays to their third successive win and spoil
Toronto's home opener, which attracted a sellout crowd of 48,414.
Odorizzi allowed his only run in two starts this season when the
Blue Jays put together a pair of two-out hits in the fifth inning.
He allowed three walks while striking out three.

Pirates 5, Tigers 4
Josh Harrison led off the bottom of the first inning with the first
of three home runs by Pittsburgh while Gerrit Cole pitched six
innings to hand Detroit their first loss of the season.
Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez and pinch hitter Corey Hart
added home runs during a three-run seventh inning off Anibal
Sanchez.

Red Sox 9, Nationals 4
Center fielder Mookie Betts' first two innings of Boston's home
opener included a home-run-robbing catch, two stolen bases on one
play and a three-run homer -- a scintillating start that sparked the
Red Sox over Washington.
Rick Porcello allowed four runs (three earned) over eight innings,
designated hitter David Ortiz hit his second homer of the season and
catcher Sandy Leon recorded his first three hits as a member of the
Red Sox, who improved to 5-2.

Braves 3, Marlins 2
Second baseman Alberto Callaspo and right fielder Nick Markakis each
drove in a run during a fifth-inning rally, as Atlanta survived
Miami's ninth-inning comeback bid to earn a close win over the
Marlins.
Callaspo's single up the middle against reliever Sam Dyson drove
home pinch hitter Jace Peterson with the go-ahead run before
Markakis followed with an RBI single.

Angels 6, Rangers 3
Los Angeles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker bounced back from a rocky
first inning to stymie the Texas Rangers.
Shoemaker went 6-1/3 innings and struck out seven after giving up
three runs in the first.
The right-hander won his ninth successive decision.

Cubs 7, Reds 6 (10 innings)
Arismendy Alcantara drove in Jorge Soler with a 10th-inning,
walk-off single as Chicago rallied to a victory over Cincinnati.
Alcantara's hit came with the bases loaded and one out in the 10th.
Soler dashed home after the Cubs second baseman lined a single to
right off of right-hander Burke Badenhop on an 0-2 count.

A's 8, Astros 1
Left-hander Scott Kazmir pitched masterfully and was backed by a
power-laden offensive attack as Oakland beat Houston.
Kazmir (2-0) allowed just one run on three hits and three walks with
eight strikeouts over six innings.

Mets 2, Phillies 0
Reigning National League Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom combined
with three relievers on a seven-hit shutout as New York won its home
opener.
The right-handed deGrom, who went 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 22 starts
last season to become the first Mets player to win the Rookie of the
Year since Dwight Gooden in 1984, allowed seven hits and one walk
