Obituary
Phyllis R Koehler, 91, formerly a resident of Mount
Pulaski and Illinois City passed away on April 12,
2015 of natural causes.
Phyllis was born on March 14, 1924 to Roy and Nola
Rector in rural Rock Island County. She was a 1941
graduate of Muscatine(IA) High School, and later a
graduate of Western Illinois University, majoring in
education. She became a school teacher, and taught
elementary studies and music for the Rockridge and
Westmer school districts from 1950 to her retirement
in 1982.
Phyllis married Harold "Hap" Koehler on June 21,
1947 in Lake Fork. She became a widow 42 years
later, but had four sons of their marriage. Jeffery
Charles of Letts IA, Christopher Robin of Illinois
City, Jonathan Joel also of Illinois City, and David
Chad of Lincoln.
Phyllis had many special talents, most notably her
music. She was an accomplished pianist, and played
for church services at Providence Baptist, Mount
Pulaski Christian, and at many weddings and special
occasions for over 55 years. |
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, a
brother, Charles Rector, sister Marjorie Cotton, and
granddaughter Jennifer Koehler. Remaining to honor
her memory is a sister Marcy Dufner of Carlinville,
Phyllis' four sons and their spouses, eight grand
and seven great-grandchildren, and many thousands of
elementary students she taught throughout her
lifetime.
Services for Phyllis will be held at 3:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski. A visitation will be held from 1-3:00 p.m.
on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be
at the Mount Pulaski Cemetery, with Pastor Paul
Brooks of the Providence Baptist Church officiating.
