[April 16, 2015]  April 15 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Mets placed third baseman David Wright on the disabled list Wednesday with a strained right hamstring.

The 32-year-old Mets captain suffered the injury while sliding into second base on a stolen-base attempt late in Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander threw 45 pitches in three innings -- instead of the expected four innings and 60 pitches -- during a simulated game Wednesday.

Verlander, who is on the disabled list with a strained right triceps, told reporters in Pittsburgh at PNC Park that he dealt with some fatigue but felt no soreness and no pain.

The New York Yankees recalled right-handed reliever Branden Pinder from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Pinder allowed three hits and no walks in three scoreless innings at Triple-A. He had five strikeouts.

The Kansas City Royals recalled outfielder Terrance Gore from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Gore will replace outfielder Alex Rios, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a broken finger.

- -

The Texas Rangers recalled right-hander Anthony Ranaudo from Triple-A Round Rock to start against the Los Angeles Angels.

Ranaudo, one of the pitchers vying for the rotation opening created by the shoulder injury to Derek Holland, allowed six runs in 1 2/3 innings as he struggled to throw the strikes he wanted.

The Los Angeles Angels sent right-hander Drew Rucinski, who was the losing pitcher Tuesday against the Rangers, to Triple-A Salt Lake City.

The Angels purchased the contract of left-hander Adam Wilk to take Rucinski's spot. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
