HARTSBURG
- This weekend, the Hartsburg-Emden high school will be presenting,
“The Breakfast Club”, an adaptation of the movie by John Hughes.
|
At the beginning of this school year, Mr. Zachary
Snyder, the director of music for Hartem high, approached the
students of the music department about what kind of play they would
like to do in the Spring. The students, who had already been
discussing this amongst themselves, quickly responded they wished to
do “The Breakfast Club.”
Snyder researched and found there has never been a play adaptation
of the legendary movie. So, being responsible, he reached out to
representatives of the estate of the late John Hughes for
permission. “I was delighted,” says Snyder, “I discovered that they
were open to the idea of a stage adaptation and gave free reign over
it.”

Those same students who suggested the legendary movie were then
enlisted to help edit the script to “become something school
appropriate, but still true to the spirit of the movie.” Snyder
states.
Performances will take place in the high school gymnasium on Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday. Friday and Saturday’s performances will be at
7 p.m., and the Sunday performance will be at 2 p.m. Tickets are
available through the Hartem high school office and will also be
available at the door. Doors will open half-hour prior to
performance.
