[April 20, 2015]  April 19 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Sunday's Major League Baseball games:

Dodgers 7, Rockies 0

Brandon McCarthy pitched six shutout innings to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a rout of the Colorado Rockies.

Justin Turner went 4-for-5 with three doubles while Scott Van Slyke drove in three runs while going 3-for-4 with two doubles, as Los Angeles (9-3) won their seventh consecutive game.

Mariners 11, Rangers 10

Nelson Cruz's bases-loaded, walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning capped off a comeback from a five-run deficit for the Mariners.

Cruz also hit two home runs to push his Major League-leading total to eight on the season for Seattle (5-7) who trailed 10-5 before scoring six runs in the final three innings.

Diamondbacks 5, Giants 1

Paul Goldschmidt's two-run home run in the first inning gave Arizona a lead they never relinquished, and right-hander Jeremy Hellickson limited San Francisco to one run in 6 2/3 innings.

A.J. Pollock contributed three singles for Arizona (7-6) who dropped the Giants to 4-10.

Cardinals 2, Reds 1

St. Louis second baseman Kolten Wong delivered a one-out sacrifice fly to plate the game-winning run as the Cardinals (8-3) completed a three-game sweep.

Adam Wainwright tossed seven innings to earn the win.

Padres 5, Cubs 2

Andrew Cashner gave up two first-inning runs, but nothing after through a six-inning outing as the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs.

Will Venable's two-out single in the sixth scored right fielder Matt Kemp with a go-ahead run, breaking a 2-2 tie while Yangervis Solarte added a two-run home run in the seventh.

Nationals 4, Phillies 1

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg allowed just one run in 7 1/3 innings and Ryan Zimmerman had two run-scoring hits as Washington posted their first series win of the season.

Strasburg (1-1) retired the first 14 batters before Carlos Ruiz hit a soft, clean single to left with two outs in the fifth. His shutout bid was broken on a RBI single with one out in the eighth by Freddy Galvis that made it 4-1.

Strasburg struck out seven and allowed five hits to the visitors.

Tigers 9, White Sox 1

Yoenis Cespedes hit a pair of home runs and had a personal-best six RBIs, and Shane Greene notched his third win for Detroit in a rout over Chicago.

Greene, who went 21 2/3 innings into the season before giving up his first earned run, induced three double plays in the first four innings to keep the visitors down.

Mets 7, Marlins 6

Ruben Tejada had a bases-clearing double in a seven-run bottom of the fourth inning and Matt Harvey pitched into the seventh, but New York's victory over Miami was marred by serious injuries to two key contributors.

Daniel Murphy and Juan Lagares had RBI singles for the Mets, who improved to 7-0 at home and broke the previous record for home wins to start a season set in 1985.

Harvey (3-0) was charged with four runs while allowing seven hits over six-plus innings. Harvey struck out seven.

Reliever Jerry Blevins recorded two outs in the seventh before fracturing his left forearm. Later, catcher Travis d'Arnaud was hit by a pitch and diagnosed with a fractured right hand.

Braves 5, Blue Jays 2

Jonny Gomes drove in four runs with a double and a sacrifice fly as Atlanta defeated Toronto.

The Braves won two of three in the interleague series in Toronto, while the Blue Jays have lost five of the first seven games of a 10-game home stand.

Braves right-hander Shelby Miller (2-0) held the Blue Jays to two runs on five hits over six innings. Right-hander Jason Grilli pitched the ninth for his sixth save of the season.

Pirates 5, Brewers 2

Gerrit Cole pitched six solid innings to run his winning streak to six and Pedro Alvarez hit a tiebreaking home run as hosts Pittsburgh beat reeling Milwaukee.

Cole (2-0) allowed two runs and five hits while striking out six and walking one. The right-hander has not lost since last Sept. 1 against the Cardinals at St. Louis.

The Brewers dropped their fifth game in a row to fall to 2-10, the worst start in the franchise's 47-year history.

Yankees 5, Rays 3

The visiting New York Yankees' bats stayed hot, getting 11 hits in completing a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay that moved them out of last place in the American League East.

The Yankees (6-6) scored in four of the first five innings, while the Rays dropped to 1-5 at home this season.

Michael Pineda pitched into the sixth for his second win of the season. Closer Andrew Miller notched his fourth save.

Orioles 8, Red Sox 3

Adam Jones continued his torrid start to the season with four more hits, including his fifth home run, and tied a career-high with five RBIs to lead Baltimore to victory in Boston.

Jones, who leads the majors with a .457 average and has 15 RBIs, belted a two-run homer in the first inning and added a three-run double that knocked Boston starter Rick Porcello from the game.

Baltimore's Miguel Gonzalez (2-1) allowed three runs on five hits in five innings.

Twins 7, Indians 2

Minnesota continued their strong recent run with a home win over Cleveland, who are heading in the opposite direction.

The Twins have won four of their past five after starting the season 1-6. Cleveland has lost six of eight since a 2-1 start.

Right-hander Trevor May (1-1) got the win, lasting six innings and allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Royals 4, A's 2

Center fielder Lorenzo Cain and designated hitter Kendrys Morales each doubled and combined to drive in three runs in the eighth inning as Kansas City rallied for a 4-2 victory.

The heated three-game series concluded with several ejections. Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera was tossed for throwing high and behind third baseman Brett Lawrie. Bench coach Don Wakamatsu and shortstop Alcides Escobar were also ejected.

Royals manager Ned Yost and pitching coach Dave Eiland were ejected in the first inning after A's pitcher Scott Kazmir hit Cain with a pitch.

Astros 4, Angels 3

Luis Valbuena drilled his third home run on the season and the Astros took advantage of some shoddy defense by Los Angeles in Houston.
 


Astros right-hander Scott Feldman (1-2) allowed six hits while striking out three over six innings.
