Illinois State took its first lead of the game at 3-2 in the bottom
of the eighth inning, but No. 15 Missouri State tied the game in the
top of the ninth to force extras, before scoring five runs in the
top of the 10th.
Illinois State (20-19, 5-8 MVC) loaded the bases in the bottom of
the 10th, but was not able to get a runner home in the extra inning.
Missouri State (29-9, 8-2) scored first Friday when Tate Matheny
drew a two-out walk, stole second base and scored on Spencer
Johnson’s single through the right side of the infield.
Neither team scored again until the sixth inning, when the Bears
tacked on a run with a Dylan Becker sacrifice fly. The Redbirds tied
it in the bottom half, however, with an RBI single from Mason Snyder
moments before Jared Hendren scored on a wild pitch.
Snyder gave the Redbirds their first lead of the game with an RBI
groundout against a drawn-in infield in the bottom of the eighth,
but the visitors tied it up in the top of the ninth with an RBI
single from Johnson that scored Matheny.
The Bears plated five runs in the 10th on five hits, which included
a pair of infield singles. The biggest hit of the inning was a
three-run triple from Jake Burger.

Redbird starter Will Headean allowed four runs over six innings,
scattering four hits and walking six. He struck out seven in the
no-decision. Jeffrey Barton pitched two scoreless innings of relief,
with three hits allowed and one strikeout, before giving way to Jake
Sale, who allowed the game-tying run in the ninth and all five runs
in the 10th.
Snyder and Paul DeJong were the only Redbirds to record two-hit
games. DeJong also drew a walk. Daniel Dwyer and Blake Molitor
registered one hit and one walk apiece.
The Redbirds are back in action against the Bears on Saturday. First
