RB Michael Cox was waived by the Giants Monday (April 27) with the designation failed physical.

Cox, who played two seasons for the Giants, suffered a fractured leg on Nov. 9 in Seattle. He was a seventh-round draft choice in 2013.

In two years, Cox played in 18 games with one start. His totals included 26 rushing attempts for 76 yards.

As a rookie in 2013, Cox led the team with 20 kickoff returns for a 21.8-yard average.

NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Cox, Fletcher

DE Fletcher Cox had his fifth-year option exercised by the Giants Monday (April 27).

Cox, the 12th overall pick by the Eagles in 2012, will receive $7.8 million in 2016. The amount is guaranteed for injury until the start of the 2016 league year, when it will become fully guaranteed.

Cox, 24, was rated among the top 3-4 defensive ends in the NFL last season, when he tallied 61 tackles and four sacks while also recovering three fumbles.

In his three NFL seasons, Cox has 141 tackles and 12.5 sacks.

NFL Note - Washington Redskins Griffin, Robert

QB Robert Griffin III had his fifth-year option exercised by the Redskins Monday (April 27).

Griffin is set to make nearly $16 million this year. He already has been named the starter.

General manager Scot McCloughan wouldn't commit to saying that Griffin was the long-term answer at quarterback for the Redskins. The Redskins have the fifth pick in this week's draft and McCloughan told The Washington Post the move "does not affect our draft process."

He said the team would use its first-round pick on the best available player and that a quarterback could be considered.

Griffin threw for 1,694 yards and four touchdowns with six interceptions last season.

NFL Note - Chicago Bears McDonald, Ray

DE Ray McDonald has been cleared by the NFL after its domestic-violence investigation, but the league continues to look at his alleged sexual-assault incident.

McDonald, who signed with the Bears last month to a one-year, $1.05 million contract that doesn't include any guaranteed money, was allowed to play for the San Francisco 49ers amid the domestic-violence accusation last year.

The NFL has confirmed that it investigated McDonald and cleared him of any violation of the personal-conduct policy.

"We have completed that (domestic-violence) investigation," NFL general counsel Jeff Pash told the Associated Press Sports Editors on Friday. "(Special counsel for investigations) Lisa (Friel) and her team completed that investigation (and) did not establish a violation of the personal-conduct policy. We informed the player and the (NFL) Players Association."

However, McDonald is also being investigated in connection with an alleged sexual assault. McDonald has not been charged in that case and he has said he will sue the woman who accused him.

"Just to be clear, Ray McDonald had two issues, as you may remember -- one related to a domestic-violence incident and one related to an alleged sexual assault," Friel said. "It's the domestic-violence incident that we have finished investigating and didn't find sufficient evidence to say that he violated the personal-conduct policy. The sexual-assault incident, that investigation is ongoing. That has not been completed, nor has the district attorney's office in Santa Clara County completed their investigation into that matter."

McDonald was arrested Aug. 31, 2014, on suspicion of felony domestic violence in San Jose, Calif., but no charges were filed because of insufficient evidence. Pash said McDonald was informed of the NFL's ruling a few weeks ago.

The 49ers released McDonald in December after allegations that police were investigating him on suspicion of sexual assault. San Jose police began that inve

CB Jonte Green was waived by the Bills Monday (April 27).

A sixth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2012, Green played in 24 games for the Lions in 2012 and 2013. He was out of the NFL in 2014. The Bills had signed him in January.

NFL Note - Indianapolis Colts Freeman, Jerrell

LB Jerrell Freeman was re-signed to his one-year tender as a restricted free agent by the Colts Monday (April 27).

In three seasons with the Colts, Freeman has compiled nine sacks, eight forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions and 15 passes defensed.

Last season, the 28-year-old Freeman ranked second on the team with 144 tackles -- 78 solo tackles.

In 2012, Freeman set a franchise record and ranked fifth in the NFL for tackles in a season with 203. He became only the second Colts defender in franchise history to top 200 tackles in a year.

NFL Note - Denver Broncos Carter, Tony

CB Tony Carter was re-signed to his one-year tender of $1.542 million as a restricted free agent by the Broncos Monday (April 27).
